The After
Patricia came to slowly, reluctantly. She felt good, soft, and light. Gentle swaying added to her comfort and reminded her of rocking in her mother's arms-no even before that. The thought made Patricia laugh, as if she could remember a time before being born. Her laugh turned into a yawn and she stretched as the last remnants of unconsciousness slipped from her mind. She rolled over and became fully alert as she fell off the narrow bed onto prickly blue carpet. She heard chuckles and looked up sharply only to see the door in front of her slam shut, receding footsteps and giggles sounded on the other side.

The Sister Chp2
14 years later Johari Johari woke up with a gasp, images of blood and flashes of light chasing the remnants of sleep from her mind. The sun had only begun to come up, and her room was nearly pitch black. Johari listened to the hum of crickets, the gentle rustling of leaves, and the cheerful cries of song birds outside her window. Her room was silent, absent of her sister’s soft breathing, but as she focused on the sounds around her, she could hear soft whispering accompanied by gentle footsteps on the ancient floorboards of their kitchen. Johari swung her legs out of bed and dressed before she walked down the hall and into the kitchen.

The best summer treat
I’d like to warn everyone, that this post is filled with ice cream slander. For the life of me, I have never truly understood why ice cream seems to be the frozen treat of summer. I stand relatively alone, apparently, in the sentiment that, on a hot day the last thing on my mind is a bowl of dairy. Some research would even suggest the combination of fat, protein, and sugar does more to heat you than cool you off on a hot day( ha!). And I get it, popsicles while delicious in their own right can be messy and usually leave you wanting more. So what’s the alternative? What sweet frozen delicacy can satisfy you on a hot day like (-better than) ice cream? Walk into the city of Philadelphia and every resident will have the same answer. Water ice.
