A tale of Dragons
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley,” her father’s voice echoes through her thoughts as Aurora traverses the mountainous terrain. She looks up at the towering Mt. Aure with trepidation. Her village elders may think she’s ready for the journey but she’s not so sure.
Chapter 1 Barefoot, Aurora shifts the cool dirt between her tiny toes. She has always felt at peace in the immense forest that surrounds her small, isolated village. It is a feeling she couldn't even hope to describe. She is simply connected to the forest and it, in turn, is linked with her. Her heart beats vigorously inside her little chest, ringing in her ears, distracting her from her purpose. She takes a moment to compose herself, one wrong move and she will be caught. Her parents would be very cross with her if they discovered that she has followed them on their hunt, but she has faith in the forest and it assures her that she will be safe.
“Our eternal maiden, in her infinite tenderness, granted us the power to love and be loved by others.” The priest begins his sermon passionately, with arms open wide. He invites them all to listen. “This ability is shared with not only mortals but with her fellow deities as well. Serenrae, the healing light, is our incandescent radiance in the dark. Iomedae, our lady of valor, honors us with her presence not only on the battlefield but also in our daily lives. The wealthy father, filling our coin purses since the dawn of civilization. Even our lord in iron, Gorum himself. They, all of our beloved deities, are not only capable of love. They embrace it. They embrace you, their children, with all of their heart. Their love is unconditional and limitless.” The priest takes a momentary pause, letting his calculated words sink in.
