Dear Diary
Dawn trickled into the deserted warehouse through a broken roof, not so much bringing light as pointing out in glowing fingers how decrepit the contents were. Debris was piled from wall to wall, separating the large space into smaller sections, each one in turn filled with odd mounds of rotted fabric, moldering boxes, piles of wood, and other, less easily identified things. A few narrow alleys through the center of the debris looked like paths through a junkyard.

Auntie Cassandra
Sometimes, Andi swore she was actually Cinderella. No handsome prince on the horizon, but still. Her parents were never that stable a match, and dad vanishing when she was ten hadn't been a big shock. Her mother dying from cancer three years later while she was starting high school, was. And living with her paternal grandparents wasn't exactly a bed of roses. They hadn't seen their son since he took off, and somehow they blamed Andi and her mom for that.

Owl's Well
Julie O'Malley returned the barista's smile and headed toward the corner that held her favorite overstuffed chair. Owl's Well coffeehouse was busy as usual, packed with people and mismatched, comfortable old furniture. The quirky neighborhood haven embraced everyone from college students to senior citizens with its warm and friendly atmosphere, and it had become Julie's favorite place to relax - even though she never drank coffee.
