New York Style Bagels
New York Style Bagel Recipe Everyone knows that NY is famous for its pizza and bagels. With the pandemic, I have been trying to cook more types of food we usually buy out. What I often do when trying a new dish is scour the internet for lots of recipes and then modify it to my liking. For example, some people say to spray the bagels with cooking oil. Others use honey in the recipe. I usually compare several recipes for the basics and slowly modify.

Italian Chicken Soup
Italian Chicken Soup Before I started to learn a lot about cooking (from someone who spent more than a decade in the restaurant business), I bought all my soups in cans. I never even attempted to cook soup from scratch. Now in retrospect, I wish my younger me spent the time to learn how to make more meals at home instead of buying most of my meals out. Meals out are great, sometimes. But, for people concerned with health (excess salt, fat, etc.), the lack of nutrition info can throw off a healthy regiment or diet. First off, when you order something in a restaurant, you really have no clue what’s going into the meal, besides the few main ingredients listed on the menu. And second, the chefs may cook the same meal a little differently every time you go. Sometimes, though, a soup out is thoroughly enjoyable, and delicious, and it’s worth the lapse in diet. I particularly like potato soup at Fridays and squash soup at a local fancy Italian restaurant.

The World's Tiniest Bird Can Hover (and other strange facts)
In the summer, hummingbirds may be all around, but until you put up a feeder, you're not likely to spot one. They fly as fast as 30MPH, and even 45 MPH. They make a humming sound, hence the name, and can be as small as a bee. Typically, these birds are about 2 to 4 inches long. At first, you may think this fast-flying bird is a beetle, bee or some other insect. Once your eyes are trained, and you put out a feeder (or plant flowers that have the nectar they like), you may see these playful birds start to visit more often.

Arrhythmia
I can’t let my pocketbook disappear, thought Laney, a middle-aged mother with a dangerous secret. Hospital technicians calmly strapped heart monitoring devices on her legs and chest. She felt like she was having a heart attack. She couldn’t breathe. Her heart was palpitating. Her mind was racing with thoughts of her leather coach bag; in it, Laney stored a secret so dangerous, some people would kill for it. She knew this, and it added to her anxiety and increased her cold sweat. She clenched her clammy hands, peering ever so often at her pocketbook, which rested on a chair in the emergency room, partially beneath her jeans and sweater, which she was told to remove in place of a hospital gown. The room was cold and loneliness permeated the ward, which was mostly silent outside of a few whispers and the constant loud beeps of equipment tracking the vital signs of other patients.
