Pepon, the Greek name for Pumpkin meaning large melon, tends to be mistaken for just a carved candle holder for Halloween. From a chef’s point of view however, it is a starter, main and a dessert fruit. (Yes, pumpkin is a fruit!). Pumpkin is a member of the Gourd family which means it is related to the cucumber, honey dew melon, cantaloupe, watermelon and even courgette family. The pumpkin is rich in fibre, potassium and vitamin c, which is a massive health benefit to the heart as well as your skin.
The Golden Milk Beast
Turmeric has massive health benefits as it is an anti-inflammatory compound, which means it helps the body fight foreign invaders and has a role in repairing damage. Rumour has it, black pepper helps activate turmeric by working with the curcumin, it slowly breaks down the curcumin by releasing a constituent called piperin in the liver. Curcumin is the natural color in turmeric, that's what gives it the yellow color.
Pizza was named as a poor man’s food, as you can probably tell by the ingredients (flour, water and yeast) being so simple and cost effective. But, let me tell you the history first. It first started in Napoli. It was first just a basic flat bread with any veg, meat, or fish they can get their hands on or afford, but Raffaele Esposito got asked to make one for Queen Margarita back in the day and so he made one, representing the Italian flag by using tomato for the red , basil for the green, and mozzarella for the white. In the end the queen loved it, so they called it the famous Margarita pizza and from then it still goes on now.
Around the Coffee in Five Countries
Italy Italy is well known for having the best coffee in the world but ordered in a unique way. It does seem to work for them but when I ordered an espresso it came at a very high temperature, at which I could not drink straight away, and I had a burnt tongue after as I decided to neck it. I saw that every time I ordered an espresso, it was always accompanied with a glass of water (sometimes still, sometimes sparkling). When you drink the water after a sip of espresso it tends to cleanse your palate. So that the next time you have a sip you will enjoy the flavour of the coffee more. Italians don’t order an espresso because of the caffeine and the strength of the coffee; they order it because it is very rich and flavoursome. In Italy, I also found that you should not have a latte or a cappuccino in the morning as they cringe at the idea of having a stomach full of milk in the morning. If you want to stay in their tradition, you should only have an espresso in the morning and have a latte or cappuccino later, such as for lunch or even dinner. For me I found that Kimbo coffee was the best I tasted out there by far, it was just so succulent and rich and just had tons of flavour to the coffee. I highly recommend Kimbo coffee but use a Moka pot to brew it to get the best flavour out of the coffee.
