Avenging the Past
“It’s all been downhill since they shot him,” muttered one of the men behind Simon. Simon blew into his hands. The effort made him cough. He wiped the blood into his greasy trousers, and rocked on his heels to keep his feet from numbing. In front of him, a shivering woman cradled her baby as it whimpered.

The Captain and the Vagrant
The boat crawled up the waterfall, and then things got worse. The man who woke up encrusted in wet sand, who learnt his name was Batts by reading the sticker on the suitcase lying next to him, couldn’t remember exactly what had happened though. You may have noticed, there's a lot less of it swashing around the place these days. Well, don't you worry yourself, my friend. They don't call me the Boy Who Cried Wolf of Wall Street for nothing. Usually, I'd go the old school route, and sell my lifetimes' worth of money-making knowledge in a self-help book with a cover that'd make you scared to be seen reading it in public. But, given the state of the state, let me state my statements.

Last Train
A faint droning noise pierced his dreams. Seconds later, his eyes opened. The ceiling was elaborately decorated with spiralling patterns that reinvented themselves the closer you looked. He spent a solid minute staring at their languid movements. Then, someone screamed.
