Dragon's Valley
There weren't always dragons in the valley. The dragons came at the same time the nightmares were unleashed on humanity and the last nation was thrown into chaos. Or so the story goes. Only a few knew the truth, and only one had the courage to tempt the fates and test a child’s bedtime story against the endless legions of the bloodied sky.

Untempered
It’s my own fault I suppose. The predicament in which I find myself, that is. Then again, maybe it’s not. Who is to say really, that this miserable end is not a fair final companion to this miserable life? Rushing on as it does unconstrained, dragging me along to learn lessons far too late. I had hoped for better, yet even now I cannot find the strength to lay blame on anyone. Not on myself for being a fool, nor on him for seeing that, and certainly not on you. You who wished for this even less than myself, you who had less say than even I. I could neither abandon you nor love you, even now.

Green Notes
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. You could see it, just faintly from your porch. Just across the lake tucked neatly behind the trees, sat the old structure that had become the thing of urban legends. It was cute enough, rustic as some might call it, but in the year since you moved here it sat dark, and empty. The kids in the town told everyone who would listen about the haunted little cabin, and all the missing people. But the adults laughed, most people who rented secluded cabins in the woods, had a habit of not announcing when they decided to move on. You certainly have no intention to, with your packed bags sitting by the door ready to leave once you turned out your own lights.

Hunter
The sun hung low on the horizon when I left the village that morning, the birdsong had just begun and the jungle was just starting to stir. I crossed the river, a tributary of the Amazon, that bordered our village. Following the familiar path I had taken with my older brother years before. Our people hunted far from the village it was difficult to carry our prey back but it kept the villagers safe from predators who would follow the scent of a fresh kill. I moved quickly over the familiar ground jumping roots that have stuck up from the ground since my grandfather's time. The canopy left my path dark as dawn barely shed her light upon the world, but I knew my way well and did not falter even as I began to run, eager to reach my goal.

Candle flames
With the Strike of the match my life began, I burst into existence shining light onto my little world. The place I saw was dark at first but slowly light spread, the room I saw before me was filled with wonders that sparkled as I danced in the draft. Swords and armor gleamed on the wet stone walls, a tapestry's bright colors, half-hidden in the darkness, shone bright as day. My little world was bright except the darkness on the other side of the half-visible table. The other half of the world was a mystery to me but if it remained unexplored that would be alright. After all, I got to see the chest with elaborate carvings on its top, and the books with ancient writing that sat on my table. My world was bright and wonderful.
