Probiotic supplementation may be beneficial for adults with severe depressive disorder, according to recent research.
According to a recent study that was published on June 14 in JAMA Psychiatry, people who are using antidepressants to treat major depressive disorder may benefit from adding a probiotic blend with 14 different bacterial strains to their diet. The study showed the potential of probiotic supplementation to support improvements in multiple depression and anxiety scores over an eight-week period. It was conducted by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's College London in collaboration with ADM Protexin, a division of ADM.
