AMG history
AMG, or Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach, is a high-performance subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. The company was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, both former engineers at Mercedes-Benz. The company originally focused on building racing engines, but in 1971, they produced their first tuned Mercedes-Benz car, the AMG 300 SEL 6.8, which won the 24 Hours of Spa in its class.
