I wanted to be like Indiana Jones until I realized that there were probably mosquitos where he did his adventures.
I like basketball, rap music, esports and books.
Mac Miller is of a different breed. His debut single "Knock Knock" was released 9 years ago and since then he has transformed from being a Fratboy Rapper to being one of the more creative MC's in the game today, as evident in his last 3 projects GO:OD AM, the divine feminine, and Swimming.
When you need quick facts to make small talk on the topics everyone is talking about, COME HERE. It'll be our little secret that you didn't actually spend six hours reading articles while listening to podcasts and watching YouTube videos to try and figure out a nuanced opinion on cultural topics... but if you do really enjoy this share it with your friends.
There has been a drought in terms of albums that I want to review, but I've been listening to a lot of singles recently, so here are some of the ones that stood out to me.
Stage 1 of the Overwatch League has wrapped and there has been a lot that has happened. Here is a basic overview of some standout news from stage 1 and a playoff recap.
The album for the highly anticipated Black Panther movie is here and it's good... Period... That's it. But seriously, this is a unique album for what I hope is a unique movie. Initially, you get a different vibe from this because it's not credited to "various artists," it's credited to Kendrick. So coming in you know this isn't going to be some weird mash-up of songs that don't really make an album, like a majority of soundtracks.
Formerly known as CXSHXNLY, 88 rising is an American multimedia company who has had increased brand recognition in the last year due to their booming record label. The brand has a very Eastern Influence which has helped them differentiate from their peers. The founder, Sean Miyashiro, has said that though music has made them very popular they are "really a media/video content focused company at heart."
From his breakout hit "Dat $tick" to releasing his first project, from Indonesia to LA and after signing with 88 rising, Brian Imanuel has come a long way in the last two years. This album is 44 minutes long and has the song catalogue of a debut project. The singles off this album are "See Me," "Chaos" and "Glow Like Dat" which I think is the strongest of the singles. The album fills out with a cypher in "Amen," some real life stories like "Kitty" as well as four tracks with features from Offset, NIKI, August 08, and Joji (who I wrote a review for after he released In Tongues, so check that out).
Hip Hop legend Eminem's ninth studio album has officially dropped and it's a monster. It's got 19 songs and is one hour and seventeen minutes in length and feature the likes of Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Kehlani, Pink, and more. After stories about his marketing campaign over at HipHop DX, which I think is pretty funny and smart, and it leaked two days before the actual release. Oh, let's also not forget his Trump bashing freestyle he did for the BET awards which, to me, set a base level tone for what this album is going to be about. What you actually get from this project is one of his most polished and innovative albums. It doesn't drag at all because every couple of songs he smoothly changes up the sound. I'm going to be highlighting some tracks that I think have to hit potential and also that stand out because breaking down 19 songs is deathly and frankly, I won't care by the end.
