The First Time Again
Maybe it was the excitement of our holiday that made the shock seem greater – that and our childish delight upon entering the gorgeous wooden cabin and exploring its small yet thrilling confines for the first time. Nothing was too plain or insignificant to receive an awe-filled ‘woah!’ or ‘this is so cool!’ whether it be the woollen rugs covering the couches, the stone-paved fireplace, or the breathtaking view of the mountains from the balcony. You can never be too old to freak out about an amazing place. When there are no real adults or real kids around, the standards for what three twenty-year old’s should behave like goes completely out the door and down the road to the next town – or something like that.

If You're Happy and You Know it, Stop!
If someone had told Ria she had died and was on her way up to heaven, she would have believed them. The stage lights gleamed in her face and her heart soared as she imagined it was those warm, golden eyes who owned the voices cheering the performance she had just shared with them for the first time. Two hands clasped her own on either side, lifting her floating arms higher still towards those blinding lights before pulling her back down and up again.

The Devil's Lullaby
Midnight in Atherest wasn’t marked by the striking of a clock as it used to be. When even the sun abandoned the barren plains that surrounded the dwindling city, the streets echoed with the noise of windows and doors slamming shut. It didn’t prevent people from being taken, but everyone felt just that little bit safer when the ‘devil’s lullaby’ began to sound.
