Second Chance, First Date
Inside my head, alarm bells are going off. Voices are telling me this is wrong, to stop and rethink my decision, so for the moment, I close my eyes and listen to the sound of rain falling around me. Something about the sound of water thundering against pavement has always soothed me. I open my eyes. Thank God for my umbrella, which has done an admirable job of repelling the deluge. Otherwise, I'd be soaked to the bone, which would be a tragedy since I'm in my best suit.

After placing the letter in a sealed evidence bad, he found a flashlight in the kitchen drawer and went outside to search the perimeter of the house. Whoever had paid him a visit was long gone, but they had made their point.

SILVER FALLS
Prologue Alone. I sit in the chair by the window, peering out into the never-ending darkness. My soul, like the night, is empty. I haven't slept well in years and tonight is no exception. A quick check of the clock only strengthens my bewilderment. Half-past three. I groan, and as I do my eyes drift to the bed where she lies sleeping. Her figure is cast in the silver glow of moonlight. Her face is angelic, frozen in time. But beneath the veil of perfection, beyond the reach of even the greatest physicians, a dark mass grows.
