A Toast to the Comebacks
She moved the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture No. 1 across her lips with masterful ease. She’d worn the brand’s cosmetic line since its 1979 debut, and the cool-toned red was her current signature shade. Anna, short for Annalise, was a faithful type. Most would describe her as grounded, logical, committed, warm, and soft-hearted. She’d done everything well in life: studied well, travelled well, married well, mothered well. She also succeeded well, having owned a women’s shoe store called Stilette’s Shoe Closet on 72nd Street for 35 years. A woman of wise predictions and good planning, she cashed out before online marketing of major department stores became too much to compete with.

Clear the Space
The pants with the tags still attached, the friend who only calls to complain, the “junk drawer," the hidden mysteries beneath the kitchen sink, the job that spins you into an existential crisis daily, the looping thoughts that stop you from setting up your online shop: WHATEVER it is making you feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, Spring presents the perfect time to get organized and create space for new things. To get those dormant organizational juices flowing again, I’m sharing a few tricks of my own trade, sprinkled with wisdom nuggets from some of the world’s greats.

Eye of the Beholder
I’ve never owned a "nice camera." The priciest one was a Nikon Coolpix for around 100 bucks in 2009. For a long time, I felt like the kind of camera you were using determined if you were a photographer or not; and, yes, in the time before smartphones, this was considerably true. However, I have always loved taking photos. And, thanks to the shifting times and technologies, more people like myself have the opportunity to become a skillful photographer and a master editor.

From Paris, with Angst
“I haaate Paris right now.” I fumbled through my toiletries bag for something to help my hurting brain…I was definitely thirty, my punishment for such indulgences: wine, bread, cheese, dessert, more wine. It was a trip I’d planned with my grandmother, but I’d go alone years after her passing. Here I was on our trip, painfully hungover, with a man I only knew by his nickname.
