Bragging On My Wife!
I have to take a moment to brag about my wife. She’s an author. She has self-published two books, and her third book is almost ready for release. She has her doctorate in education, and she decided that, after nearly a decade in education, she wanted to chase her dream of being an author. She’s written these books while doing a fantastic job caring for our kids. Between soccer practice, dance practice and recitals, conferences, doctor appointments, and caring for all of us, she did what so many people aren’t willing to risk doing; she went for it!

The Woods' Whisperer
Stephanie wandered through the dense woods, her flashlight illuminating the path before her. She had heard tales of a mystical creature living in these parts and was determined to see it for herself. Suddenly, her light flickered and died, leaving her in complete darkness. Just as she was about to panic, a soft voice whispered in her ear, "I've been waiting for you." Stephanie froze, realizing the creature wasn't just a myth after all.

Why North Carolina Isn't First In Flight
Who is First in Flight?!? It's not North Carolina, but it's not Ohio either. Every time I see a North Carolina (NC) license plate that says “First in Flight” I jokingly call the occupants of the vehicle a liar, and point it out to my wife. She always rolls her eyes and refuses to dignify my jest with a response. The truth is, no state can claim to be first in heavier than air flight; that belongs to the Wright brothers. No state government made any contributions to the first flight in any substantial way. But if any state did have a claim, it should be Ohio.

I Lost My Right Eye!
On April 01 of this year I had an enucleation to remove my right eye. It was the worst April Fool’s Day ever! My eye was nearly swollen shut, and I could barely make out any light coming through. I was examined by multiple specialists who had tried in vain to save my eye, and it was pure torture. No one could confidently assess what the problem was, and it was determined that the best solution would be to just remove it. The decision to do so likely saved my life, but what was crazy about the whole situation was that just a week and a half earlier, my eye appeared to be perfectly fine.

The Key To Leadership:
If you Google “leadership” you’ll see a definition followed by page after page on the topic. If you were to search “how to be a good leader” you would see article after article discussing leadership qualities that good leaders share, or steps to follow to become a good leader. What you will not immediately find is a discussion on followership. A quick search of followership will yield an equal number of results, and the articles on followership often link followership with leadership. However, followership isn’t thought of as a top quality to possess in strictly leadership-oriented discussions. I’m here to argue that followership is more than just a component of leadership. Good leaders are great followers. It seems contradictory. There are leaders and followers. Followers follow leaders by definition. They are necessarily opposite, but simultaneously intertwined.
