Bio
For five decades I have wanted to write and I finally have the time to do it. I am, what I like to call, a bit eccentric others may just call a little crazy. I'll leave it up to you to decide.

After Ian; what we got right, and what we got wrong
There is nothing quite like a natural disaster when it comes to things that make the brain spin. Living through one causes you to toggle back and forth between every emotion known to humankind. Emotions that are in constant conflict with each other. You feel happy and guilty. Privileged and forgotten. You feel loved and loathed. No one emotion comes alone and none of them solidify for more than a second. That is all likely common in high stress situation like these.

Living through Ian
My home is on Fort Myers Beach but I rode out the storm at my daughter's place in north Fort Myers. I am devastated, grateful beyond words, distraught, happy, sickened, relieved and overwhelmed. We lost so much and we have so much left. Time stands still, and time rushes by. The rollercoaster of emotions rocks you into sleep and back out. We are out of homes and jobs, but we are ALIVE. Barring a couple of acquaintances, everyone has checked in safe and ALIVE. Hence, the happy part. Many cannot say the same. Thinking of those that were not as lucky is the crippling sadness part. So many lives forever changed. So many lost. Lifetimes of treasures and keepsakes gone forever. For tens of thousands of people, memories are all that remain. For thousands of people, anticipation of happy news and fear of bad news still dominates their every thought. There is a strange mixture of hope and rebirth constantly overshadowed by fear, grief and uncertainty. It makes me feel guilty to feel happy and grateful, knowing how many don't get to feel that way right now.

In It Together
Over the years our house has seen many animals come and go. Some were fostered before moving on to their forever homes, some stayed until they crossed the rainbow bridge. All had one thing in common, they were rescued from bad situations. Some neglected, some abused, some homeless. We took in any animal in need, including, but not limited to, a fawn, rabbits, birds, cats, dogs, a pig, and even a few humans. I even trap mice live and take them far enough away to not come back. I always take them in the morning, hoping to give them the best chance to find adequate housing by nightfall.

Can We Do Anything About Our Eroding Freedoms?
Freedom has been won and lost a million times over thousands of years. Small groups and large groups have attempted to define and implement freedom. Everyone you ask will assure you they can tell you what freedom is. Unfortunately, as with all things, every person has a different opinion, making a "one size fits all" definition of freedom nearly impossible. There is a plethora of components that people agree on, but no two people will ever agree on every aspect.

The Great Betrayal
It was a crushing day on so many levels. It started with great expectations of a hope-filled future and ended with a devastating slap in the face. The worst of it was realizing how naïve I really had been. I felt so conned and deceived. I pride myself on being discerning, so it was a devastating revelation.

The Game of the Gods
The Game of the Gods No one can hear a scream in the vacuum of space. Or so they say. They would be wrong though. The gods can. The gods can do anything. They are omnipotent. They created it all and can change any of it on a whim. They can manipulate time and space. They have all the power. They can do whatever pleases them.
