Red Rocks Amphitheatre: The World's Most Beautiful Concert Venue
Neil Young is our favorite rock artist. On August 5, 2012, we saw him in concert him with Crazy Horse at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It was a spectacular show, one of the best concerts that we have seen and part of the reason for that was the venue. We had seats near the middle of the amphitheater for that show, but as luck would have it, we had the opportunity to see Neil Young and Promise of the Real at Red Rocks three years later on July 8, 2015.

Bass Fishing on the Alabama Gulf Coast
Alabama’s official state fish, the largemouth bass, is certainly native to the Alabama Gulf Coast. Alabama bass fishing is serious business to some and entirely relaxing to others. On any level it is fun, and, on some levels, it is quite addictive.

Kayaking the Bon Secour River
Our son was going to be married in Old Pensacola. Family members were going to be driving and flying in from as far west as Colorado and as far south as Orlando for the wedding on May 30th. My wife and I wanted to do some fun things on the coast before the reunion got in full gear,

Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge: A Step Back in Time
One of the largest undeveloped parcels of land on the Alabama Gulf Coast, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 7,000 acres on a peninsula that stretches down Fort Morgan Road (Hwy 180) from Gulf Shores all the way to Fort Morgan. It is on the "10 Natural Wonders of Alabama" list. "Bon Secour" is a derivative of the French phrase "safe harbor."

How to Catch Grass Carp
Few fishermen have caught a white amur, commonly called grass carp. They are not found in all freshwater. They do not eat the same food as commonly caught freshwater fish, so they do not take the same bait. Even if they are hooked, they are extremely difficult to land with the same fishing gear that successfully bags panfish, bass, and most catfish.

Catching Blue Crabs on the Alabama Gulf Coast
Catching blue crabs on the Alabama Gulf Coast is easy. The learning curve is small, and anybody can learn the basics within minutes. Of course, like anything else the more practice, the more crabs you will take home, but even the most experienced crabbers are not any better than the novice at enticing crabs. It all comes down to knowing the best spots and having the right equipment.

Alabama Coastal Wildlife
It is not difficult to find coastal Alabama wildlife. The beaches, rivers, back bays, lagoons, lakes, and bayous are teeming with wildlife, much of it quite easy to find. On a typical walk on the beach, you will see great blue herons wading in the water, brown pelicans flying in a V-formation overhead, and seagulls diving into schools of small fish in the water.

Alabama Gulf Coast Prehistory
Several years ago, my wife and I were sitting on the beach in Orange Beach, Alabama. I like to keep busy even when I'm resting, so I was casually sifting sand through my fingers. When doing that, I usually find tiny seashells or fragments of larger ones. This time I felt something different and being an avid arrowhead hunter, I knew what it was: worked stone. In about five minutes, I had found a half dozen broken arrowheads and knives.
