Act of God
Were it any other time, Bob would have been ashamed, his face was unshaven, and his shirt and slacks unpressed! He hoped the client wouldn’t mind, after all, it was so hard finding a proper laundromat these days, especially in light of what had happened. Still, he couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed as he drove on. He brought the ATV to a stop. GPS had marked this spot, though for the life of him, Bob couldn’t see the house that he was supposed to be assessing. Bob spun the hatch open, and stepped out, straightening the tie that Margret had given him for their 7th anniversary.

The Party's End
I woke up to smoke, and blinding heat. What had happened? I tried to sort through the thoughts in my pounding head to remember last night. I went to a party last night? With the football guys? Yeah, yeah that’s right we won the big game and were looking for some fun for the rest of the evening. I smelled, once again, the soot and smoke in the air and painfully I realized this heat and smoke meant there was a fire nearby. I blinked again, my eyes stabbed by the smoke, sweat pouring out of me like never before. Oh my God! This much smoke meant the house was on fire, I had to get out! I got up and began running trying to find a wall to guide myself by.

Queen of Ash
Sunlight hit the entrance of the cave they called home. Jo looked out the opening, as she had for the last 13 years, ever since she could first remember. Around the corner of the entrance Jean, her father appeared. He always seemed to know when she awoke, and he always kept watch.
