As I stated with my Suicide Squad article, I love superhero games and with Marvel's Avengers coming out this week, I figured why not do an article about the game. This is one of the more hyped up games of the year and after a few push backs, it still has a lot of expectations to live up to. Ever since 2008, Marvel has taken the pop culture scene by storm with movies, Netflix Series, Disney+ Series coming soon, animated specials and everything in between. Marvel Studios currently has three of the top 10 highest grossing films of all time. That influence has helped their be a ton of excitement for this game, and their is already a stacked roster for this game. With Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Ms. Marvel in the game at launch, and Hawkeye, Kate Bishop and Spider-Man (as a Playstation exclusive) coming to the game as post launch DLC, people wonder what other heroes will be coming to the game after it launches and with the arsenal of heroes that Marvel has at their disposal, who else will be added to the game?
I'm going to state this right off the bat for this article, this is a little more of a rant than my usual articles and also a lot more serious. As a former athlete, I feel a need to talk about this topic of college sports postponing (not canceling) their fall sports seasons until the spring.
I am someone that enjoys a large variety of video games, despite the fact that I am clearly a huge fan of Nintendo games in particular. But some of my favorite games are the Batman Arkham games from Rocksteady Studios. I remember going through and 100 percenting Arkham Asylum multiple times. I also remember the emotional gut punch at the end of Arkham City where (spoilers for a nine year old game) Batman says that despite everything he had done, he would have saved Joker and him carrying Joker’s dead body out of Arkham City. Now why am I mentioning these games from years ago? Well on August 7, a twitter account was created for a new Rocksteady Studio game, a Suicide Squad game. Recently, the Suicide Squad has gained a major rise in popularity, mostly in part to a movie that came out in 2016, which was met with mixed reviews, but was a box office success. We are getting a sequel that is planned for 2021, being directed by James Gunn with Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney reprising their roles of Harley Quinn, Corporal Rick Flagg and Captain Boomerang respectively. The sequel also adds names like David Dastmalchain, Idris Elba, John Cena, Nathan Fillian, Pete Davidson, Michael Rooker, Taika Waititi and many others in undisclosed roles. And now the super villain bunch is getting their own video game.
One of the teams that has been struggling these past few years in Nascar is Richard Childress Racing. A team that has housed the likes of Ricky Rudd, Dale Earnhardt, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton in the past has struggled since losing Harvick to Stewart Hass before the 2014 season. Since then the team has recorded only three wins, 37 top fives, 104 top 10s and outside of Ryan Newman’s runner up finish for the championship in 2014 (which was the year Harvick won his championship) their best points finish was 11th twice.
Now don’t take this the wrong way, I think that Patrick Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the game today. He has shown that time and again, hell he didn’t even let being down 24-0 in the Wildcard round of the playoffs stop him. I’m talking about this from a logistical standpoint for the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes 10 year extension for $503 million with $447 million guaranteed. While those numbers are insane, why does Mahomes deserve that much of the money? First let’s look at Mahomes stats over the past two years that he has played.
With the release of the next fighter for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate creeping ever closer, fans wonder who else could be joining the cast of 76 characters. Over the years, the Smash Bros games have gone from being a series where you pit your favorite Nintendo characters against each other to being a celebration of gaming as a whole when characters like Sonic and Snake made their debuts in Brawl. Fast forward a handful of years and we have a plethora of third party fighters like Mega Man, Pac Man, Ryu, Cloud and more. After Joker, Hero, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry Bogart and Byleth were added thanks to the first Fighter Pas, it was announced that there would be a second Fighter Pass with six more fighters joining the roster. It has already been revealed that the first of these six characters would be a character from one of Nintendo’s newest IPs: ARMS. That character is set to be revealed on June 22, but there are still five other spots up for grabs. With so many possibilities for those spots, it was rather tough to narrow this list down to just 10, so I needed to set some ground rules first.
