The Humble Tortilla Done Right
Let me tell you about the best tortilla I have ever eaten. I have had many "aha" moments when it comes to food, as I'm sure you have. I remember the first time I tasted Thai food in Hawaii in the early 1990s. Even though I tried to eat the long thick sticks of lemongrass in my dish, I was blown away by the flavors of this new (to me) cuisine. Some of the "ahas" were subtler. When I was young, I didn't understand the fuss people made over produce and why they preferred this grocery store over that. Sometime in my 20s when I had begun shopping and cooking for myself, I started to get it. You taste a homegrown tomato from your friend's garden and something clicks. I eat lots of perfectly good nuts, but a few years ago I had some really fresh ones and I realized I had been missing something. Agustina's tortillas were like that. I've eaten plenty of tortillas in my life, but hers were special.

Pack an Eco-Friendly Lunch Box for Back-to-School
Now that Covid restrictions are loosening up, kids are headed back to summer camp and will likely return to school next fall. Lately, I've been starting to pack lunches again for the family. Fortunately, the schools in our area provide very inexpensive hot meals, but they're not always healthy and the many individually-wrapped selections are not environmentally friendly. When I join my daughter for lunch on occasion, I'm also astounded by how much of these lunches go straight into the garbage can. For the Moms that can't handle another thing on their "plates" (ha, ha), I get it. If you do have time, I find that packing a home lunch can be healthier and cost effective over the long run. Here are a few of my favorite products.

How to Recycle Small Plastic Toys
Everyone loves to give your child small plastic toys. Usually they come with good intentions. We love to see children smile because they are delighted by a new trinket. The prize packs from school celebrate good behavior and important milestones. Family bring tiny treats just because. The local business gains ten minutes of your attention by distracting your child with a shiny object. The bracelet pen your daughter got from Girl Scouts keeps her from feeling left out when Mom didn't buy enough cookies. You know how it goes. . . Every holiday and birthday party brings more.
