Billy and Dominic
They call me Billy, and where I live the sun almost always shines and the weather is aggressively warm. From the edge of the property, well beyond the fence, I can see the sparkling blue ocean, and all day long you can hear the waves crashing on the beach. My living quarters are spacious, and I have all the amenities one could want. There was only one problem with living here, it was kind of lonely.

My City is Burning
As you watch from afar, you can see the smoke, emerging from flames raging on the city streets, it rises to the sky bellowing up thickly, tangibly, menacingly, blocking the light of the sun, casting down a harrowing shadow striking a quiver into the heart of those who witness it.

The Crash of the Air Conditioner
I yell for her help as the air conditioner falls from the window onto my foot, like the Chicxulub asteroid hitting earth. The adrenaline pumps through my veins so I don’t feel a thing, but I am sure that when I open my eyes, if it has not been fully eradicated like the dinosaurs, my foot will certainly be flat and stretched out, like something smashed by an anvil in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. So as I look down at it I am relieved and surprised to find that my foot is just as it always has been, three dimensional and all. Then the pain starts and I scream as I fall to the floor. I roll around clenching my sore foot in my hands trying to feel for the broken bones. I am not feeling anything out of place, I guess that means nothing is broken. So, despite gravity’s weapon of mass destruction’s best effort, my foot is fine.

Kaboom
It was too high, and too far out of reach for me to just pull it down, so I left the red balloon, a remnant of a moment I'd rather soon forget, remain pressed to the top of the dome. Knowing that eventually, the helium would dissipate, and down it would drift, back to earth. Then, as if it had never been there, never existed, and never mattered, life would go on.
