Terms of Struggle
“Come close to me, Riordan,” Madigan said, his head resting on the asphalt surface of the park's sprawling interior. Lying and looking up, he saw the city skyscrapers looming over him like steel and concrete statues: epic, eternalized, and destined to outlive him.

The Self-Made World
The nurses and stenographers waited in their white rubber coats, steam rising up from under their facemasks and fogging their spectacles, and beheld the man in bed. With Origen’s pause, an anxious sigh, sharp and perturbed, escaped from all of the room’s inhabitants. But Origen only pursed his soapwhite lips and waited for the right words to appear without being asked.

Recess
Philip stared at the empty garbage pail, its bright white inner wall and spotless lip, and tried to restrain the little bomb of anger that had just exploded in his belly. He turned around, facing the hall, and was about to shout his wife’s name before she appeared in the kitchen doorway.

The Human Gift
ViceCollin fell from the ostensible comforts of his chair when he succeeded yet again in separating his mind from his body. Am I Addicted?
We are often unaware of our habits. Getting up three minutes before the alarm goes off, leaving tiny bits of food on our plate at every meal, saying "this is based off of that" instead of "this is based on that," taking in a heady eyeful when someone of the attracted sex walks past...these are habits. We would probably never say they are addictions.

My First Car Was Destroyed In a Flood
My first car was a brand new 2010 Subaru Forester X Premium. I loved everything about it: the cloth seats, the huge sunroof, the bright headlights, the killer sound system (after I added a small preamp unit, of course), the shiny black paint, the way it revved when I pressed the gas pedal just beyond that special point. It was a beaut, and it was my beaut.

Why, On an Abstract Level, I’m Against Pets
People like to criticize PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, because of how many animals they euthanize. These armchair critics would have us believe that PETA euthanizes them because they don’t care about animals.

Ten of the Dopest Most Head-Splitting Dubstep Tracks that I Know About
I don't know if you've ever listened to dubstep music, ragastep, rapstep, dubtrap, trap, trapstep, or #bass music in general, or if you've been listening since you were knee-high to a duck. One thing I can tell you is, there's little point in presenting my opinions about "goodness" or "bestness" as facts, because the truth is — or at least it should be — as Jack Black sings: "it doesn't matter if it's good. It only matters if it rocks."
