Bio
I'm a math teacher (my apologies to the math-haters out there) but words are actually my jam. Unlike algebra, which has few practical uses, words are a powerful, creative force. They can stir hope and inspire change. They are live-giving.

Confessions
If walls could talk...they wouldn't. Seriously, what would be the point? How can I put this delicately? Walls like myself are experts in human behavior. We have literally seen and heard it all. Toxic Empathy or Toxic Apathy?
How do you respond when people around you are suffering? Most of us tend toward one of two extremes: Toxic Apathy or Toxic Empathy. We either ignore other people's pain or we drown in it. Both of these approaches are destructive to us and ironically, do nothing to help the suffering person either.

Twisted Therapy
The tropical storm outside was no match for the tempest in Allie’s mind and the fury exploding in her chest. She ran to the window where a bit of gray daylight filtered in. Palm branches whipped and snapped apart in the gale force winds, the spectacle blurred by torrents of rain beating against the pane. When the glass shattered, she cried out as a sharp fragment imbedded itself in her neck. She ignored the yelp of concern behind her and angrily slapped away the hand that tried to pull her from the window.

Brainwashed? I Doubt It
One over-used and abused word I keep seeing all over social media is BRAINWASHED. Basically, everyone with an opinion is accused of trying to brainwash everyone who disagrees with that opinion. The list of perpetrators include school leaders, pastors, political figures, feminists, the CDC, business owners, the rich, old white men....the list goes on and on.

The Cries of Canis
Most people associate fire with comfort. Crackling campfires have a way of reviving the weary and shaking the winter chill out of old bones. But the flames before my eyes are anything but comforting. As they lick hungrily at the kindling, camaraderie and warmth are the farthest things from my mind.
