All For You
You’re just home from work. I greet you at the door wearing a smile, a flouncy, floral tank top, and nothing else; a kiss on my lips just for you. Without saying a word, I take your hand and coax you with my bedroom eyes, and you’re just too happy to follow me.

Missing You
I’m in bed tonight, but I am not alone. The man beside me, as you know, means nothing to me anymore, not like you do. You are the one my heart desires, the one soul my needs, the one my body craves. My mind wanders to our last exchange… how sensual it was without saying much.

Merry Christmas, My Children
It’s Christmas morning, but the house is quiet except for the sounds of a hungry cat trying to wake us for breakfast. Sleepily, I walk to the kitchen, two felines on my heels. I try not to trip over them as I pop cans of food open and portion it out. Mercy cries when she smells it, and Pixel runs to check on her, making sure it’s only the lack of food that disturbs her. The three of us walk back to the bedroom as we do every morning. Sassy, Pixel and Mercy are enjoying their morning meal, but the house is quiet.

For this reason, and because sour grapes, I present to you my “List of reasons cats are better than kids.”

Dear Younger Me...
Have you ever wished you could go backward in time? Not to relive the reckless days of your youth, but to tell yourself, “Hey! It’s going to be okay. Life isn’t that horrible after all”? Maybe it’s only once. Perhaps you’d time travel, find your teenage self and give him or her a hug, and say, “Hang in there, kiddo. It will get better.” Maybe you’d open a lifeline between the two selves and check in a few times a week.

The Locket
Danae awakened from slumber. A heart-shaped, golden locket on a broken chain clutched in her fingers. She gazed out at her surroundings; the room was dusty and filled with rubble, broken glass, and other debris. “What happened?” she asked, but no one answered, for she was alone. She lifted her head and felt an unfamiliar ache. Her fingers touched her face and came away slick with crimson blood.
