We Find Out Who We Are Along the Way
Chapter 1 "Look who's finally awake." My entire body jolts up and my head hits something hard. I open my eyes to see a small wooden board was right above my head. Ouch, that's going to leave a mark. There is a sound of a secluded whistle coming from the windows. The scent of old paint, bitter coffee, and hot metal fills the humid air. I bend over and look up to see four curious faces. The floor and walls are covered in velvet maroon carpet, there are three golden metal framed windows on both sides of me and a slight unceasing thud below us. I am on a train. But the thing is, I don't remember ever getting on a train. In fact, I can't remember a thing.

Wait, That's What I Am? I'm a People Pleaser?
I always felt different from everyone around me growing up. Throughout my years in middle and high school, I was aware of how differently people acted towards others in any given situation in comparison to the way I would handle it. One of the earliest memories that come to mind when I think of this is that one time a friend of mine (let's call her Holly) got into a fight with another friend in our friend group. When they decided to end the conversation and give each other space, I watched in awe at the way Holly was quite calm and able to let things be in the meantime. I remember going home that day, wondering why I felt so strange and bad about myself. What did I have to do with what happened?

One of the most beautiful moments of one's life is meeting your child for the first time. You hear the sound of screams, and then suddenly you are handed a tiny human being with big brown eyes and a few hairs on the top of their head. It's a miracle, plain and simple. The fluorescents above your hospital bed are replaced with car beams as you make your way home, to your new life. You were excited. You loved me so much.

One Compliment
It was like any other day in my routine. The only difference was, I was feeling down on myself. But, it was that time of the week when I make my field trip to one of my favorite places in the whole world, the grocery store. My mask gripped tightly to my flushed cheeks and my head lay low as I made my way into the noise-filled jungle filled with people yelling numbers and the crinkle of plastic bags. To my right and left, I watch as people hurriedly go through their internal lists, playing around with the tip of a plastic bag until it finally opens, and no one making eye contact with each other unless they had to. Since I was in a very antisocial mood, I focused on my list. In and out, I tell myself.

The Modern Day Idolization of The Celebrity
As human beings, we are created with the utmost fascinating instinct to worship something. In monotheistic religions, the word "idolatry" means to worship something other than God. It is evident in the earliest parts of humanity; people have within them the animalistic desire to look up to something they believe is more than themselves, and give it their relentless attention. The papers and ink of biblical tales sort of gave me the assent to separate my world from the one I was reading. We take in these bigger-than-life stories and truly see it as just that. It just doesn't seem relatable to this modern life.

Reclaiming Your Spark
There is no other time as special as when you are a child. There is an unspoken agreement between us all, as we look down at little kids whose faces never glow as brightly as they will in that time in their life. This sort of melancholy that spreads over us as we start to reminisce when we were just as luminous. We were untouched by any affliction that is the adult life. I like to think of the little girl with the impenetrable spark and a grin complimented by cute bucked teeth and choppy bangs. A girl at the time, who had no idea.
