An Impromtu Spiritual Adventure
I went to the beach today. I have always liked the beach, always felt drawn to it. As a kid, I lived in the middle of the desert and the beach was over 2 hours away. Needless to say, I never really went. My mom was super sick when I was a kid, suffering from chronic nerve pain. She went to the doctor in San Diego a lot. So, every month, sometimes a couple times a month, we took a small road trip. It began usually early in the morning, piling water and blankets/pillows into the car to make the ride a little more comfortable. We would stop and Jack in the Box for breakfast. Still, to this day, I crave a Breakfast Jack combo on long car rides.

Resolutions Are So Last Year.
“New Year, New Me.” I don’t know how many times I have said that phrase. I have probably uttered it every year for about half of the time I’ve been alive, and although each year I grow and change, it has had nothing to do with the magic of this ‘new year’ humanity has derived, and it has all to do with the steps I take every other day of the year to improve and grow. That shit is tough! Much tougher than pretending that you aren’t going to be the same damn person you were the day before with no real work put in. But if resolutions work for you, far be it from me to discourage you from making them, but here are a few reasons why I choose to not participate this year.

The Thanksgiving Ham
Okay, real question: Have you ever seen The American Barbeque Showdown on Netflix? If you haven’t and are either a) an American who loves cooking, barbecue, or competition shows or b) a non-American who loves making fun of super American things, I highly recommend it. This show has everything: a black hulk, bitchy judges, an actual meat locker, brisket, strong female characters, a down south, back woods fella named Grubbs, and a contestant that has the immaculate energy of that tiger from Zootopia that you just know would treat you right.
