Entering the world of skincare can be a minefield! Only a few years ago, good quality, effective skincare was reserved for the wealthy. Now, high-end ingredients are in some of the most affordable products. Due to this, there is an abundance of information about the ingredients, and what effects they have on the skin. The trick to understanding what you want, and how to tackle your skin concerns is research. The more you research, the more specific ingredients will be mentioned. Having some basic knowledge will also help A LOT!
Who has time, in the morning, to spend hours on skincare? As a mum, wife, and full-time employee, I don't have oodles of time to get ready in the morning. When I was trying to work out a suitable routine, I needed to allow myself a snit of alone time to complete the steps I wanted to include. Every morning, I get out of bed at least half an hour before anyone else. It's a nice, undisturbed way to prep my skin, and ease into the day. During the week, I forego makeup, and concentrate on skincare instead. I have an uncontrollable passion for makeup, but leave putting on a full face till the weekend.
Aging is an inevitable part of life. Some age gracefully, whilst other go to extreme lengths to maintain a semblance of youth. Reality kindly gave me a bitch-slap when I hit 35! I could see subtle changes, and kicked myself for not taking my skin more seriously in my younger years. Thanks to the invention of the magnified mirror every little bit of wear and tear was highlighted, in full HD!
The weather is changing and the winter germs start to come out of the woodwork. Illness at work was rife and it was inevitable that I was going to catch something. Little did I know that my constant sickness was not due to germ spreading!
When I was growing up, makeup was used for special occasions and in moderation. I never saw it as a form of self-expression until I reached my late teens to early twenties. Now, I am addicted to the transforming effect it has. It's not all about the looks I create but the products themselves. I love getting a new palette and swatching the colours up my arm. Grabbing all my lipsticks and wondering which colour would go with the look I am trying to achieve. Looking at pretty, shiny, glittery things makes me really happy!
Back in 2012, I was made redundant from an organization I had been with for nearly 10 years. I did not take the redundancy well and felt very bitter and twisted about being ousted! In a matter of weeks, I was not able to leave the house without a full blown panic and anxiety attack. I even feared stupid things like the postman delivering letters, being around people, speaking on the telephone, going food shopping, seeing friends, etc. Within a couple of months, my physical, emotional well-being, and family life were severely affected. I was frogmarched to the GP and was referred to a Mental Health Team. I have always been an open minded type of gal but accepting psychological help seems like I had failed as a person. I was stronger than this. I was just having a hard time and things would get better, right?
