What Sci Fi to Watch After Firefly
I'm not a sci fi buff, I'll admit. I've never even seen any of the original Star Trek episodes. But I recently moved in with my beau who is all about sci fi, so he's been catching me up on what he considers must-sees. I've actually really enjoyed the shows we've watched together so far: Firefly and Dark Matter. Our next show on the docket is The Expanse. I've only seen the first two episodes so far, and I'm already hooked. I'll be a science fiction buff yet!

Dear Delane,
I never thought that you would become the best friend I've ever had when you banged on my door that evening to ask me about my zodiac sign. You couldn't have arrived at a better time. I didn't know it then, but your moving in was the first time you pulled me out of a dark place. I wasn't getting my homework done or even maintaining basic hygiene living by myself, and your presence was the motivation I needed to get shit done.

An Ongoing Impulse Buy
I've always had a knack for writing, so much so that I participated in a competitive creative writing program called Power of the Pen in middle school. Participants are given a prompt, then have 40 minutes to craft a story related to that prompt. I had a great time on that team in middle school, and all of my friends in high school were people I had met through the program. But my high school did not have a team, so I pretty much stopped writing creatively once I left middle school. I did plenty of academic writing, but I didn’t write any fiction or poetry like I did in Power of the Pen.

Is Avatar: The Last Airbender Really the Best?
Anyone, regardless of age, can find something to love in Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Personally, I also enjoyed the next installment, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, but it definitely doesn’t measure up to its predecessor. As a whole, I don’t think anything compares to The Last Airbender, or ever will. I am hoping that the recently-established Avatar Studios will eventually prove me wrong. In the meantime, here are some TV shows that manage to light a candle to the Nickelodeon classic in one way or another.

The Plight of Former Gifted Kids
The internet is chock full of people who reminisce about their early childhood when they effortlessly earned As and exceeded academic expectations. Then they entered high school or college, and suddenly they had to work to keep their grades up. The once-easily attained 4.0 GPA slipped out of their grasp, and they may have fallen into a depression that persists to this day. I know I'm one of those people. Science was my favorite subject as a kid, but I barely passed each of my STEM courses in college. I take Prozac for depression and anxiety, and I struggle with organizational skills that came naturally to me in my youth.
