A Second Chance
I awoke to the sound of a chain clanking up against what sounded like a metal bar. I adjusted my eyes to see my surroundings, and I saw I was in what looked like a birdcage. I looked down and saw my hands were shackled together and my right foot had a ball and chain connected to it. Next thing I know, I saw a giant hand, with long claws grab onto one of the bars of the cage. Then a skeletal face with no eyes, and sharp teeth looked right at me as it peered through. The being gave me a very feral grin and said “I see my little pet has awakened. Just know you can never escape this prison without this key that I never let out of my sight", he said showing me a key attached around his neck. "I suggest you get used to your new home because you’re never leaving this place after what you've done”. I was so out of it still and it was hard to comprehend what was just said to me and what state I was in. I kinda just sat there staring with no thoughts coming to my mind. It was as if my mind was a blank slate that I myself had the brush to put colors on the canvas, but felt I couldn’t. I sat there for a while until I realized where I was and how I ended up in this state. I gave up on the light I always believed in so much that the creature that I saw earlier, I remembered was darkness himself it seems. Yes, I became a prisoner to darkness himself and now he was going to use me any way he saw fit. I've been in a constant battle with the light and darkness most of my life. I always felt I won the battles but was still always at war regardless of that. It happened so fast, darkness swept me up before I could even notice it. I started contemplating how I was going to escape this place. The cage was empty except for what looked like human remains. I didn’t want to disrespect the dead but I had to do what was necessary to get out of this place. I wasn’t going to let darkness just do whatever he felt like to me even though I finally succumbed to him. I picked up the pointest and sharpest bone and proceeded to pick the lock on the shackles that were on my hands. I managed to shimmy the lock and off came the shackles. Of course, I thought this was too easy so I waited a bit before trying to get the lock of the ball and chain on my leg off. My intuition never fails, as I heard darkness coming back and I quickly put the shackles back on so he wouldn’t suspect a thing. He approached the cage, and just sat there staring at me. “You know if you take a picture it’ll last longer”, I chimed in, as he sat there and didn't move a muscle felt like he was eyeballing me despite lacking any eyeballs. He chuckled and said, “that smart mouth of yours is going to get you in even more trouble my pet". He threw a chicken leg that was about the size of my arm at me. "Eat up. You'll need all your strength to be useful to me", he said as he turned his back and walked away. I refused to eat what he gave me as there's no telling what he was going to do to or with me. I picked the bone back up and continued to pick at the restraints on my ankle. "Angela, baby please wake up", I heard a voice say in my head. "Who is that?" I asked aloud as if the person could hear me. "We all need you baby please come back to us", the voice said, sounding very sad and pleading. That voice sounded so familiar but I couldn't tell where I heard it from before. Snapping back to my current situation, I continued picking the lock and got myself free. All that was left was the lock to the birdcage in which I was being held prisoner in. I hurried over to it and shimmy the lock and was able to unlock it. I looked down but didn't see how high up I was or if there was a place to land. All there was, was pitch blackness everywhere even underneath me except for a tiny hint of a dim light below that I spotted suddenly. I heard darkness coming back and took a chance and jumped to that one dimly lit spot.

The Woman And Her Boss' Secret
Chapter 2: Bonding. *Huff, huff*," HELP!!! SOMEONE HELP ME!” Kitana screamed as she was running in darkness from something that seemed to like toying with her. No matter how far or long she ran it seemed like whatever was chasing her was always a few inches behind her just by seeing the glowing hazel eyes. “No matter where you run or hide you’ll always be mine, I’ll always find you, and you can’t escape from me”, said whatever kept chasing her. She finally came to an area where she saw an exit. She changed direction and started running towards the exit, but before she could reach it she was grabbed by the person or thing that was chasing her. Whatever caught her finally revealed itself to her to be Shawn, her boss. The difference was he had black horns on the side of his head and black wings to match with it. His hazel eyes glowed in the dark and they looked more menacing than the usual warm glow it gave. One look in his eyes and she was instantly paralyzed. He slowly inched his face towards hers for a kiss, but Kitana was awoken by the sound of her alarm clock going off, and she woke up covered in sweat. She threw the covers off herself and turned her alarm off. “What kind of dream or nightmare was that? And why did it have to be about my boss of all people” she said as she got out of bed to get ready for another workday. She was really nervous about going to work today after what happened in the shower last night and the dream or nightmare she just had. Kitana slowly got herself dressed and got into her car to go to work. As she approached the front doors of the office, coincidently her boss appeared at the same time right behind her. “Good Morning Kitana”, he said, greeting her with the same smile as usual except it felt different considering what she’s been through the night before. Kitana awkwardly shifted her gaze elsewhere, “Good Morning Mr.-”, she said as she was interrupted by him saying, “no need to be so formal, you can call me Shawn”. With that, she repeated what she was saying earlier, “Good Morning, Shawn”. He once again smiled at her and Kitana couldn’t help but smile back and they both proceeded into the office building. They parted ways as he went to his office and she to her cubicle. A few minutes into her work and she was already zoning out. This is just so awkward, Kitana thought to herself as she stared off into space for a few moments recounting the previous night's events. “Hello, earth to Kitana, do you not hear me talking to you?” Jessica said as she was trying to get her attention. “Sorry Jess, I didn’t sleep very well last night”, she apologized to her as she finally snapped out of it and turned towards her friend. “It does look like you didn’t sleep at all last night. What exactly kept you awake?” she asked with concern and curiosity. Kitana blushed profusely when asked that question. She turned around to hide her blushing face, “nothing, I just had a bad dream is all”. “From the look on your face, it doesn’t sound like it was a bad dream at all”. Jessica said to her with raised eyebrows. “Okay, Kitana are you seeing someone you haven’t told me about”. “No, I’m not seeing anyone, it was just a dream about someone I least expected to appear in my dreams”, Kitana said, still blushing a little. “Please don’t tell me it was your ex”, Jessica said with an annoyed tone in her voice. “Heavens no, he’s been evicted from my brain since I finally got over him. The person in my dreams just happened to be-”, Kitana was interrupted as Shawn approached her. “Hey Kitana, did you submit your last report from yesterday?” he asked and pierced her eyes with the same look she saw last night while taking a shower. Kitana blushed a little and realized she didn’t, “Oh no, I totally forgot, I’ll get it to you right away”. He smiled at her and gazed a little longer than usual and said “Thank you, Kitana” as he walked away. Jessica watched him walk away and looked back at Kitana. “Oh my gosh, our boss likes you”, Jessica exclaimed as she saw how he was looking at her and he didn’t dare hide it. “Not only that missy, you like him too”. “No I don’t”, I snapped and stuttered back at her as I turned around with my obviously blushing face. “Kitana, you're a terrible liar, plus your facial expression and stuttering just gave you away”, she said with her hands on her hips. Kitana looked away as she knew she couldn’t hide it from her. “It’s not that I like him nor do I not like him, he was the one that was in my dreams last night but it was like they were real”. “More like you were hoping they were real”, Jesica said as she teased her for it. “I don’t know Jess, I think there’s something about him that isn’t right,” Kitana said as she looked off to where Shawn’s office was as she stared at him and he looked up to see her looking at him. She quickly looked away and back at Jessica as she looked at her with a suspicious expression on her face. “You two don’t have something going on do you?” she asked. “I promise you nothing is going on between us, but that hallucination and dream felt so real.” “What a minute, did you just say hallucination? And what exactly type of hallucination was it? Are you on drugs, Kitana?” Jessica asked. “No, I’m not on drugs and as far as the details of the hallucination I’m not at liberty to say”, Kitana told her as she looked away and examined her computer screen. “Okay Kitana I’m going to take your word for it but I have a feeling Mr. Boss man likes you and you like him too. I advise you to be careful, not just because of company rules, but also because of his other fangirls who will make your life a living hell if they find out”. “They’re the least of my worries”, Kitana said as she turned back to her computer and continued her work.

The Woman and Her Boss' Secret
Chapter 1: What Is He. Kitana awoke to the sound of her alarm clock blaring at her to get up and turn it off. She rolled over in her groggy state to hit the snooze button. She looked at the bright red digital lights that showed it was 5 am. Another weekend flew by just for her to spend another dreadful week at a dead-end job she hated going to. She couldn't even count how many times she mentally quit her job, but couldn't actually do it since she needed the money to afford the necessities in life. She did have a roof over her head, clothes on her back, and a reliable hunk of junk to get her to and from work, but she felt she didn't have much to show for it. She sat up in bed and contemplated whether she should call in or just force herself to go in today. Just like always, she slowly rose out of bed and made her way to my bathroom. She stared in the mirror and saw the black circles under her eyes from exhaustion, and the bags from lack of sleep. She turned on the faucet and proceeded to splash water on her face. She opened the medicine cabinet to get a toothbrush and toothpaste out to brush her teeth. She rinse her mouth out with mouthwash and proceed back to the bedroom to get dressed for work. She looked at the bedroom door and stared at the skirt suit that was picked out last night and laid it down on the bed. She stared at it momentarily as she reminisced on when she first got the job and how excited she was when she got the call two days later that she had got the job. Back then she was happy and was always greeting everyone with a smile and a “good morning”. She snapped back to reality and put it on so that she won't waste any more time getting ready for work. She grabbed her car keys, and her old worn-out black purse jumped in her hunk of a junk 4 door white sedan and made her way to work.

The Journey Of An Abused Child Who Learned To Become A Healthy Adult
Acknowledgment Of The Author This is an autobiography of my life as a child who suffered through many traumatic, life-changing events, and learned to heal from my trauma to become a healthy adult. I will be discussing many things that may bring back traumatic memories for those who have also suffered through abuse of any or many forms. I write this with the hope that other people will know they weren’t the only ones who went through traumatic experiences in their life. Please read at your own risk and hopefully this autobiography will be helpful to those who have gone through something similar and to those who have thankfully never did. This took a lot of patience, courage, and willpower to write this story. I still struggle with the belief that I should of just never posted this, but I believe for the sake of my mental health, it was best that I got this on paper instead of keeping this within myself.

The Mysterious Creature of the Lake
My family and I were on the road, heading towards our family cabin to spend another summer vacation. Our family-owned cabin was in California and was surrounded by dense forest and a large lake. It was right next to the lake which also had a dock where my dad kept his boat to go fishing. I’m 15 years old now and honestly, I always hated going to the cabin because the lake near there always gave me a bad vibe. I remember seeing something late at night either entering the lake or coming out of it. I always told my parents, but they would just laugh and say I was just dreaming or I just had a nightmare. We haven’t been up here in a few years due to the fires that always plagued the forest when summer came. It seemed like every year they got worse so we decided to take a break going for safety reasons. I remember the first year the fire got kinda close to our cabin; however, somehow the fire never actually reached it but got diverted elsewhere. Thinking back to that year, I believe it had something to do with that lake. Actually not just that one year, but every year that there was a wildfire our cabin and the woods nearby never got touched by any of the fires. My parents always thought it to be out of luck or that God was protecting our cabin but I believe that the lake had something to do with it.
