"911, what's your emergency?"
The house was empty, my smile was bright, and I finally had a day to myself. Sun rays were pouring through my window and I was never so excited for it to finally be summer. I grabbed my towel, let my clothes hit the floor, and headed for the shower. "Bye! Bye! Bye!", from the popular NSYNC band was blaring through my portable speaker as I danced my way through the glass shower doors. Before I could get to the water that was streaming out of my rain shower head, I suddenly began to feel light headed as if out of no where the air became thick and my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen. I reached out for the handle to turn the water off and turned back to grab my towel that was hanging over the side of the glass door. Tugging on it, I almost stumbled over my own two feet.

It Must Die
My eyes were heavy, and my legs needed a little convincing to lift my body out of bed. Eventually following the sweet smell of French Toast and maple syrup coming from the kitchen, I pulled my chair out and sat down in a slow, exhausted fashion. I reached for my glass of orange juice and took a gulp to re-hydrate my dry mouth and wet my lips. I could tell the orange juice had been sitting out for a while because condensation formed on the sides of the glass, making it wet to the touch. But it quenched my thirst nonetheless, so I continued. Before I could open my mouth or raise my finger to ask how much longer before I got to taste the French Toast my wife was making, she turned around with a massive stack of it and kissed me on my head to say “Good morning”. I smiled and nodded to return the silent “Good morning” greeting. I devoured my entire plate and finished my orange juice before bringing my plate and utensils to the sink. My wife hardly asked anything of me really, besides helping with little things around the house and to clean up after myself. I didn’t mind helping her because I knew, and trust me, she also knew she was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Say a prayer...
It wasn't the foul odor that woke me, although that stench marched right up my nose as I stared into his white lifeless eyes. It was rather the sound of him dragging his deteriorating body across my floor that startled me out of my peaceful slumber. What was even more astonishing was how fast he moved despite his legs rotting away and well...that he had also been dead for almost 6 years.
