Rise of the Wolves Chapter 3: Days of Innocence

Rise of the Wolves Chapter 1: An Unexpected Return
The gates, fashioned of the tallest tree trunks, leading into Hawthorne’s Rest slowly dragged open with agonizing creaks of protest. It was old, just like its cousins which formed the wall to protect the village, but sturdy enough to have seen enough blood, sweat and tears. The blizzard which had engulfed the territory had long passed but left ten or fifteen feet of snow as a reminder. The sun reflected off the surface of it that made you wonder if you were staring straight into the star itself, but further out the scenes were so spectacular it made you forget how hard that winter had been. Snow clung to the branches of trees and most of it covering the ground remained untouched, birds sang their prayers to the Earth Mother in thanks for such a beautiful afternoon and, if you turned your eyes further north, the frozen peaks of Mount Cuneo welcomed them home as if they were inherently the great watchers of the continent.
