The Beauty of "Make Me Wanna"

Song by Babeheaven, Featuring Navy Blue.

Music, like many of the arts, stands out as a key influence in people's everyday lives. Music has the power to evoke almost every emotion out of a person. Few songs have personally affected me as much as “Make Me Wanna” by Babeheaven featuring Navy Blue. The song stands out in Babeheavens discography as many believe it evokes the same feeling in them as it does with me. The song's introspective lyricism and how immersive it is brings the listener in and makes them believe they are watching a story unfold, an intimate story of two people vulnerable at the thought of love but unable to grasp it fully as it is out of their reach.

From the first lines of the track Babeheaven’s gentle vocals and lyrics establish an environment of peace and tranquility, where tides are used to reflect the themes of distance and desire and as they fall and rise she directs these feelings toward someone. Through its soft and deliberately slow layering the song brings the listener in and makes them feel as though these same emotions Babeheaven feels are being felt by the listener. Constant waves of melancholy feelings wash upon the viewer like waves on a beach front, and all the listener can do is let the waves crash upon them and take them through the tide.

Babeheaven begins this song by slowly setting up a soft tone so that you wouldn’t expect the crashing down of Navy Blue’s feature. Lines like “Am I a nuisance? Provide the proof” (Babeheaven) at the start of Navy Blue’s verse are used to set up a tone of doubt. Where Babeheaven says, “I love the feeling, that you won’t get me” and “I move further to be by you”, Navy Blue questions his place in this story. The contrast brings the song to a place where two personalities are clashing, both wanting the same thing yet not being able to achieve it. Navy Blue opens up by saying, “Wrapped in your arms is where my cure is”. He knows he wants the same as her yet earlier doubts provide how personal this song feels. The yearning for a beautiful relationship yet the doubts that come along with it is what I find gorgeous about this song. I feel as though this song caters to many who have experienced the same feeling and every single listen provides a new understanding of the song. Throughout my first few listens of the song I felt I understood more and more how the situation in the song is playing out, this was a situation that was being unraveled before me in my real life as well.

I would like to get “Make Me Wanna” tattooed one day. Not as a piece of decoration but as a marker of tougher times that I have persevered through. I think almost anyone could relate to this song and I believe its expansive yet intimate nature makes the song stand out as a beautiful piece of art that lingers in your mind long after the song reaches its end, and much like the songs lyrics, I believe everyone should “surrender to the tide movements” (Babeheaven) and let the flow of life take control, as love finds everyone.
