Lanterns Season 1

Okay, I finished season 1 of DC’s latest installment of their TV shows, "Lanterns," which is based on the Green Lantern character. When I first tuned into the pilot episode, I wasn’t underwhelmed or overwhelmed, but as the episodes started to delve deeper into the season, the writing of the show improved episode after episode. I was like, wow, James Gunn finally nailed it, especially coming off of Supergirl's underperformance at the box office. The show scared me in the beginning because it was non-colorful and super mature in the sense that it wasn’t age-appropriate per se for children to watch due to some language and violence, in my opinion. But I think that’s where DC got it right: they either make something too cheesy that the whole family can enjoy, or they make it mature where only adults can really consume it. Marvel, on the other hand, has perfected the craft of hitting the nail on the head, making it suitable for all. Anywho, the show, being more human and including moments of the ring being used, I think helped its phenomenal writing and casting. I’m interested in season two now, with Hal being dead and John basically being a vigilante Lantern working outside the Corps. I wonder how they will tackle it. I’m hoping in season two that they show more of the ring being utilized and also display more of the Corps, but they need to maintain the maturity of the show because I think that’s where they nailed it, similar to the Penguin show by DC.
