Why phone companies don’t provide removable batteries

Most of the smartphone companies don’t provide removable batteries now. Almost all of them seal pack the batteries which you can’t remove on your own.

Earlier, it was better in this scenario. You didn’t have to buy a power bank. You merely carried a spare battery and inserted it whenever your phone discharged.

So, what was the reason that phone companies had to shift towards non-removable batteries?

1. Shape and Size

Earlier, removable batteries were in a rectangular shape. However, companies can make non-removable batteries in any size. Smartphone brands manufacture their battery shapes as phone design demands.

If the phone batteries were removable then they have to follow fixed protocols. This is because they can make spare batteries in the same designs. This gives an opportunity for fishy third-party companies to replicate original batteries.

Consequently, this improves the design of your smartphone.

2. E-Waste

Consumers used to replace their phone batteries by themselves. So, where would the old batteries go? Obviously, in the household dustbin or sometimes randomly disposed of somewhere.

To avoid this, companies like Xiaomi came up with the idea to exchange e-waste with some benefits. In the same program, non-removable batteries were included because companies dispose off them properly.

On the other hand, decreasing the frequency of replacing batteries decrease e-waste as well.

3. Battery Capacity

There was a time when all the smartphones had a battery of around 2000 mAh. Now, it is not the case. A typical phone has a battery more than 3000 mAh now.

Also, removing and inserting battery again and again damages battery ports. It affects battery life as well. Providing non-removable batteries led users to hold patience while booting phone. It is safer than removing battery again and again.

If you had a habit of removing the battery every time then you will get a better battery life now.

4. Space

As smartphones are getting thinner and more compact, it is important to fit all the components in a fixed amount of space. So, non-removable batteries highly help in compact designs.

Your dual camera, sensors, antenna, SIM card slots, and many other things need to be in their place. Therefore, this extra space is extracted from battery space which is saved.

5. Premium Phones

Premium phones come with features like water-proof and dust-proof phones. For this reason, it is important to fit the battery in as lesser space as possible. If we use removable batteries then it is impossible to seal the batteries with water-proof coating.

6. Drop Damage

Non-removal batteries can easily come out from the device when it falls on the ground. Hence, it results in a high impact on the motherboard, circuit, and other connected components. This can damage power sensitive components instantly.

7. Increasing Sales

A typical mobile phone battery lasts for 2 years with good optimization. After that, battery performance starts degrading. A consumer used to buy another battery and continued using the same phone for a few more years.

Now, replacing a battery is possible but you can’t use a random battery. Mostly, you have to use the original one. Instead of replacing the battery, users tend to upgrade their phones. Even if they replace the battery, the stores charge heftily for original battery and service.

Phone companies take advantage of this fact.

Have you ever wondered why most current smartphones come with non-removable battery? Let’s take a look at the 5 reasons below!

Non-removable battery smartphones: great designs and waterproof!

First of all, non-removable battery goes with seamless design. Many smartphone manufacturers don’t want their phones to feature any removable case, because it makes the phone less beautiful. This is somehow true because phone users nowadays mostly prefer a seamless design, which looks more premium and luxury. Moreover, it’s hard to design a removable case for a phone with metal construction (which is very popular in today’s flagships).

Second, non-removable battery support waterproof feature.

Not all smartphones with non-removable battery are waterproof. But I am sure that all waterproof smartphones come with non-removable battery. This is very easy to understand! You CAN’T prevent the water from leaking into the phones if the design is NOT seamless. And most users nowadays prefer a waterproof smartphone to a smartphone with removable battery. That’s why it’s more likely to find a device with non-removable battery.

Third, smartphone battery now is much better than it was in the past. Current battery is quipped with great technology, which keeps the battery life really longer. So there’s no worry that the battery will turn dead after long time use.

The forth reason is the power bank! In the past, people chose a phone with removable battery so that they could buy another backup battery in case the main one is used up. But now, with the appearance of mobile power bank, there’s no need to do that.
