What is Fiverr? Fiverr is an online marketplace for hiring freelancers. What is Konker? Konker is also an online marketplace for hiring freelancers. But what are the differences between them, and which one is better? Let’s start with Fiverr.

Fiverr

Fiverr is a weird place, we all know it. And if you don’t know it, then congratulations now you do. One of the weirdest things about Fiverr is its longstanding tradition with the number 5. Obviously it's in the name, but the entire platform is based around the number 5. The gigs you order are all in multiples of 5. The second weirdest part is the people. Both seller and buyer alike there are a lot of weird things set up on this site. For every weird gig posted on Fiverr, is another weird person contacting people for feet pictures(True Story). So why would you work on Fiverr? Well it’s free. And that's something everyone can afford. On top of that it's super easy and you don’t need a lot of experience to set up your account or set up your gigs.

But that's the point of Fiverr, it’s quick and painless. No job interviews, or painfully long job processes. All you need to do on Fiverr is simple, just: show up, do a quick job and turn it into your client. Easy. Except, everything is cheap and you aren’t going to get paid much. So in order to make any substantial amount of money, you need to do 50+ gigs. Less easy.

Fiverr is full of cheapskates, after all they are there to spend $5. So make sure if you list yourself for something that low, it’s worth your time. So how much should you charge? Well, 250 words of voice acting for $5 is the average amount. And it shows that the people doing those jobs value their time and their job. Any more and suddenly you're struggling to do a reasonable amount of work for that little pay. And that kind of work doesn't pay. I suggest having several Voice Over gigs on Fiverr with varying prices and word amounts for the best results. If you have any skills related to voice acting, like editing or writing, make sure to list those too. If you're struggling to get orders Fiverr also has access to classes on Fiverr Learn and Tests for you to learn and succeed on their site. These classes and tests will show up on your profile for all buyers to see, which will make you stand out from the crowd.

One of the major downsides of Fiverr is that it has a lot of competition on the platform, this is the main reason it's exceedingly hard to get ahead. On top of that Fiverr is very much a self-promotional site, so if you want lots of orders you have to constantly promote yourself on other media. This can be a bit annoying, but it’s an easy way to get orders. The other problem I’ve had with Fiverr is that it takes 20% of everything you earn, which is quite a lot for a freelancing site. It’s super annoying to lose that much every order. On top of that, there is a long wait for your cash, as it takes two weeks after you finish your transaction for Fiverr to put the money in your account, just so you can withdraw it and wait another few days.

This can be very inconvenient at times, and it's one of its major drawbacks of Fiverr. That being said, I quite like Fiverr, but these problems have always made me a bit unimpressed.

I would still recommend Fiverr. Other than the listed character flaws, Fiverr is a great way to start off your voice acting career. So if you want to start your career in Voice Acting, this is a nice place to start!

And that’s what I have to say about Fiverr, but what about Konker? Well I’ll make sure to put all my thoughts on Konker in Part 2!
