AR (Augmented Reality) has become one of the most popular forms of virtual reality (VR) technology and is expanding into games, movies and even medicine.

The current trend signals that AR / VR systems will be an exciting part of the future for many people, and as content creators begin to get their hands on much more content and create better technologies, they will be able start to develop it the way they really intended to. Augmented and virtual reality will transform the internet, and even retail experiences. Augmented reality goes beyond the mouse and keyboard, even the touchscreen doesn’t compare, augmented reality and virtual reality already allows users to experience a place as if they where actually there.

Augmented reality is reality superimposed with virtual information (the real world with computer graphics on top) you can submerse yourself in a virtual environment such as a video game, a movie or even a television show. While virtual reality creates a complete immersion in a digital environment, augmented reality blends virtual objects on the real world background where the user is, it does recreate the existing world, it uses a camera and by overlaying virtual elements, it creates the visual effect of the object being there.

The experience of augmented reality seems to generate a higher awareness of the real world and a more comprehensive experience compared to virtual reality. Experiencing augmented reality can be a much more enjoyable experience than experiencing virtual reality, but both have many different advantages and disadvantages, depending on the experience you want.

Google and Apple have brought augmented reality capabilities to the fore with their mobile releases, but the technology is still a long way from being perfect. There are some small differences in the cost of creating VR and AR experiences and this affects the price of the end product, but both are affordable to the end user.

While Google and Apple are both pushing augmented reality capabilities to the fore with their mobile versions, augmented reality is still far behind virtual reality in terms of available developers, choice of experiences and consumer adoption. But it won’t take long for AR to catch up and even surpass VR.

Defining virtual experiences is one of the biggest problems that needs to be solved in the coming years. There is a difference between augmented and virtual reality, but the easiest way to remember the difference is that virtual reality creates a whole new world for you to enjoy, while augmented reality complements the real world by adding things to it. On the surface, both augmented reality and virtual reality are very similar, and it’s easy to understand the end users confusion over the two products, but they are two very different experiences with very different real world uses, each system has its own limitations and a vendor will pick a certain product depending on what they want to achieve when delivering you an experience.

Unlike augmented reality, virtual reality attempts to immerse the user in a new made up world and completely hide the real world. Virtual reality experiences can provide a digital replica of a real environment, while augmented reality displays the real environment of the person and transfers new computer generated virtual elements into the environment.

Augmented reality is defined as the fusion of virtual reality and real life, where developers create images in and connect them to real-world content. Augmented reality environments go a step further than virtual reality, as users can interact in real time with both virtual and real objects in the real world using a computer monitor or smartphone, a headset would create a more immersive experience but is not required, however virtual reality does require a headset.
