UX (User experience) and UI (User Interface) are two areas essential to the design of a user-friendly interface. If the creation of aesthetic and ergonomic interfaces comes from the combination of the skills of UX Designers and UI Designers, they are however different activities.

1 - User experience: the user at the heart of the design

UX design is a user-centered design approach: their needs, constraints, habits, expectations, etc. The objective is to create interfaces that best meet the characteristics of end-users in different contexts. Uses in order to improve their experience during the use of the tool.

We have all said or heard things like, “It’s really bad! ",” I don't understand anything “or” I can't find what I want “which reflects the negative feelings felt when faced with an interface. The user experience (UX) work improves interfaces to bring a positive feeling to users.

A good UX will, therefore, elicit favorable comments such as “It’s super easy to use!" "Or” Try it, you will see the grip is very fast” To achieve this, UX designers are above all listening to users to identify the essential elements to integrate into the tool according to their needs.

This collection of needs can be done through observations, interviews, workshops, and often give rise to the creation of personas. From this preliminary work results in the creation of wireframes allowing to visualize the elements to integrate, to structure the pages, and to propose a user journey.

Although this is not what the user will notice first, these aspects of the design provide comfort in use by simplifying handling and navigation on the interface. To improve these wireframes, user opinions must be taken into account, through workshops or user tests.

2 - User Interface: the visual effect that appeals to the user

“It’s ugly ", " It's not modern " or " It doesn't look serious, I don't feel it " can be the immediate opinions of users when they discover a website, application or software.

If this is the case, then it is necessary to work on the user interface (UI) so that the first impression is rather "Wow", "It's stylish" or "It looks serious, I can trust them". It is the role of the UI Designer to improve the visual effect of interfaces.

The UI Designer brings an artistic vision by creating pixel perfect models from customer requests or wireframes made upstream. It is he who will transmit the image of the brand by choosing the typographies, colors, icons that will make the interface more attractive and pleasant to use.

Thanks to its visual effects, it makes it possible to highlight the important elements, to facilitate reading and to arouse positive emotions in the user.

3 - UX Designer and UI Designer: why combine them?

In short, the UX Designer works mainly on the ergonomics and content of the pages, while the UI Designer focuses on the visual effect and the overall rendering of the interface. Thus, the UI Designer generally intervenes after the UX Designer to provide a more aesthetic appearance.

To conclude, remember that the overall user experience depends as much on the ergonomics and paths imagined by the UX Designer, as on the visual aspect of the interface offered by the UI Designer. This is why, although the UX and the UI require very different skills, it is the combination of the two that brings the best results.

This post illustrates how UI and UX are like two sides of the same coin in creating an exceptional user experience. UX is the brainy strategist that ensures everything works, while UI pitches in with the style and charm to enthrall users. I love how this post highlights that it's not just about making it chic or functional, but about striking the delicate balance and hitting that sweet spot where users go.
