The struggle of a grandmother for her granddaughter is the online of ``Sembi'' directed by Prabhu Salomon.

Cinematographer Jeevan has done a tremendous job of recording the hilly areas with their wetness, capturing interesting angles inside the same bus and giving thrill in the chase scenes.

Kovai Sarala, who started her second innings as a comedy actress with the film Muni, has now taken a new avatar as a character actress with the film Sembi. Has this innovative initiative of his got any results? Isn't it?

Veerathayi (Coimbatore Sarla) belongs to the tribal community living in Puliyur, Kodaikanal. His ten-year-old granddaughter Sembi (Nila).

They make a living by taking honey and yams available in the hills and selling them in the market. After losing her daughter and son-in-law, she is the only support for her granddaughter and dreams of making her study and become a doctor somehow. But as if to shatter that dream, an accident happens.

The girl Sembi is sexually assaulted by three men. Weerathayi thinks that the culprits involved in this should be found out and they should be punished according to the law. But the police are looking for Veerathayi as the culprit in a murder case.

Were the criminals punished, why is the police looking for Veerathayi? What is Ashwin Kumar's role in this story? ``Sembi'' says it all.

If you look at the masses of the film, Prabhu Salomon as usual has taken a very simple story and tried to tell it strongly. The highlight of the film is the questioning of sexual abuse of children, the treatment of tribal people and the retrogression imposed on women in the name of morality.

Among the cast, Kowai Sarala, Ashwin Kumar, Thambi Ramaiah, who appear in the lead roles, have all contributed well. Although Kowai Sarala's performance is not up to par in some places, she has acted very beautifully in emotional scenes. Nila playing the role of Sembi is a good introduction. Along with these, another character also attracts the audience. It has worked out well in the comedy film where the character calls everyone in the bus as Wada and Podavene.

Cinematographer Jeevan has done a tremendous job of recording the hilly areas with their wetness, capturing interesting angles inside the same bus and giving thrill in the chase scenes. The song 'Aathi En Mela' by Nives K Prasanna was excellent. Some emotional scenes are enhanced by background music. An added plus is that Sembi is making the same point as many recent sex crime films. The film has recorded the idea that the punishment for sex offenders should not be handled emotionally, they should be punished according to law.

If we look at the flaws of the movie 'Sembi', although Prabhu Salomon has told the story as emotionally as possible, if we think about it logically, there are many problems. In one particular scene, there's a mini cybercrime team inside a bus, and the action is nothing short of believable. It has only helped the director to write the story according to his convenience and not in the course of the story.

Some of the emotional scenes are a bit over-dosed and the scenes feel stretched too much. The performances of the three who are shown as villains were very artificial. Despite this, does Ashwin Kumar's character come across as a reflection of the law? Or the question arises as to why there is confusion as to whether it comes to reflect God. Like this, the film has been created with all the strengths and weaknesses.

If these things have been corrected, this 'Sembi' would have become a movie worth noting, like films like 'Gargi' and 'Anal Mele Panithuli', which talked about sexual crimes this year.
