Apple went live this past Monday to reveal a variety of refreshed products including new notebooks, headphones, and streaming service updates. After the stream ended and the event concluded, one clear message loomed in the air: you likely don't need those new Macbooks.

The refreshed notebooks came in the form of a 14" and 16" Macbook Pro, alongside the supercharged M1 Pro and M1 Max. Both devices are impressive as they come with Retina XDR Displays, ProMotion, thinner bezels, improved speakers, and the glorified return of actual ports.

On paper, Apple's new silicone dominates its previous M1 devices, which already crushed most windows notebooks, to begin with. This will undoubtedly improve and even double performance in many cases.

Now here's the unpopular opinion: you probably don't need these new devices. With price tags starting at $1999 and going upwards of $3000, these devices fall into a specific niche category. Chances are the people who are buying these new models already know their specific use scenario.

These devices aren't for the casual student or the casual everyday notebook user. If you need to search your mind trying to convince yourself of a reason to purchase a new Macbook then you probably will not make good use out of it, and that's okay.

Apple makes great devices for the casual user including the 2020 M1 Macbook Air of the 2021 IMac with the M1. Both devices have plenty of power to tackle everything you would use them for. At the same time, you can save yourself $1000 with the frequent deals hosted by Amazon and other retailers.

Agree with me or not, if you're reading this you probably have some concern in your head that may be keeping you from forking over that $2000. Let me be the voice of reason in your head and tell you no. The 2021 Macbook is probably (most likely) not for you.
