When I first picked up the Motorola Edge 70 Max, I honestly felt something was different. For years, Motorola has been known for its lightweight smartphones, curved displays and stylish vegan leather designs. But this time, the experience feels completely different. If someone gave you this phone with your eyes closed, there is a good chance you would not guess that it is a Motorola device.

The biggest reason behind this change is the design. The Motorola Edge 70 Max comes with a premium glass and metal sandwich design, which is something we rarely see from Motorola. The front and back panels feature Gorilla Glass 7i protection, while the beautifully finished metal frame gives the phone a flagship-level appearance. The chamfered edges make it look even more premium when viewed from the sides.

The buttons also feel impressive. The power button and separate volume rockers offer a very tactile clicking experience. On the bottom, you get the SIM tray, microphone, USB Type-C port and speaker grille. The right side houses the antenna lines along with the buttons, while the left side features a dedicated AI key. There is also a noise-cancelling microphone and Dolby Atmos branding, showing Motorola’s focus on multimedia.

One interesting thing about this phone is its weight. Motorola has not made many phones above the 200-gram mark, but the Edge 70 Max comes with a solid build. It weighs around 212 grams, which is understandable considering the massive battery and premium materials. The camera module itself is also made of metal, adding to the durability. The phone also comes with military-grade durability certification, making it more resistant to daily accidents.

Inside the box, Motorola provides a 90W Type-C charger, supporting fast charging and even making it useful for charging other compatible devices. You also get a Type-C to Type-C cable and basic documentation.

Moving to the display, this phone brings a completely different approach compared to many Motorola devices that usually feature curved screens. The Edge 70 Max comes with a large 6.82-inch flat AMOLED display. It supports a 144Hz refresh rate and LTPO technology, allowing dynamic refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz for better battery efficiency.

The display is extremely bright with up to 7000 nits peak brightness. It supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Pantone validation, making colours look accurate and vibrant. The screen also comes with SGS low blue light certification and smart water touch support, allowing you to use the phone even with wet hands.

Performance is another major highlight. The Motorola Edge 70 Max is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which delivers near-flagship performance. Benchmark scores reach around the 3 million mark, making it suitable for heavy gaming and multitasking.

The phone comes in 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM variants with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The biggest highlight is its huge 7100mAh battery, making it the largest battery ever used in a Motorola smartphone. It supports 90W wired charging and 25W wireless charging, along with bypass charging for gamers.

Gaming performance is impressive because of the 144Hz display. Games like Call of Duty Mobile can run at high frame rates, while demanding titles like Genshin Impact also perform smoothly. Motorola has included a large vapour cooling chamber to control temperatures, and during testing, heating remained under control.

The software experience is clean with Hello UI based on Android 16. Motorola promises three major Android updates and five years of security updates. After disabling some pre-installed recommendations and feeds, the interface feels very close to stock Android.

The phone also includes AI features like Motorola Kira Assistant, Catch Me Up, Recall and other smart tools. Some advanced AI features are available on the higher RAM variant because they require more local processing power.

Connectivity is excellent with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and multiple 5G bands. It also supports eSIM, allowing users to operate without a physical SIM card.

For entertainment, the Edge 70 Max delivers a fantastic experience. The Pantone-validated display, Dolby Vision support, stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos create an immersive multimedia experience.

The camera setup includes a Sony LYTIA 710 primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP selfie camera. The camera quality is good for its price range, producing attractive skin tones, although colours are slightly boosted compared to natural photography.

Video recording supports 4K 60fps from the main camera and 4K 30fps from the front camera. AI features like Magic Eraser, Unblur, Frame Match and Horizon Lock add extra functionality.

With IP68 and IP69 protection, wireless charging, bypass charging and a massive battery, the Motorola Edge 70 Max offers a very complete package.

At around the ₹50,000 price range, Motorola has created something genuinely interesting. It may not be perfect, especially with a few missing features like a telephoto camera and USB 3.0 support, but the combination of premium design, powerful performance, huge battery and clean software makes it a strong competitor.

If you are considering this phone, the 12GB RAM variant makes more sense for long-term use. The Motorola Edge 70 Max is definitely one of the most unique Motorola smartphones in recent years.
