If you want your own blog or website, there are specific actions you need to do to get started when creating this yourself and here are the first basic three steps you need to complete.

There are numerous companies offering advice and pre-formatted sites where you simply register and then amend the standard template to your own colour scheme and style, often for free but more often, for a fee.

There are many ways to find a free website by finding offers within the results of a search engine exploration. These offer information on various hosting and domain providers; however, if you are looking for a long-term deal, sticking to the most well-known companies gives a solid and reliable provider who will not let you down and disappear overnight.

Lots of companies give both domain names and hosting as part of a total fee price but you can get them individually. For every website you need a domain name, which must be available and not used by anyone else as well as hosting or the ability to display this on the worldwide web.

Whatever option you choose, the chronological order in which you carry out the creation of the website is always the same.

  1. First select your domain name. – This is the name of the website and must be linked to what you offer. After choosing which company you are using, you need to register and try various websites names until you find one that is available. When carrying out this process, you type in the name you want within the search facility and, if it is already being used, the site offers suggestions closely linked to the original request but with very slight differences, such as alternative spellings or different suffixes of .com, .co.uk, .org, .net and so on, which are called extensions. When pricing the name, the cost may range enormously from a couple of dollars for two years, to thousands of dollars.
  2. Next, selecting your hosting package. — On finding your available domain name the next step is to choose a hosting company which is responsible for displaying your website, and all the information within it, on the world wide web. This may be the same one you use for the domain name or a different one. Again, the price for this can vary in price from a few dollars monthly to much more, as each one can provide various elements within the site and can charge for these different additions. It is often worthwhile to select the cheapest package when you get started and upgrade as you go and expand, needing more space, services, etc. to fulfil your business needs.
  3. As part of the process when selecting and buying the domain name, you have to change what is called your nameservers, the area involved in the hosting which instructs your website where to display the information on the internet. The steps to take to carry out this part differs from provider to provider and instructions are always available to support in doing this. It is a very quick and easy task which does sound complicated to the untrained computer user but it takes only a few minutes to do.

After carrying out these steps, you are all ready to get started in creating your own website and getting it out there for everyone to see.

Creating a template on a piece of paper is one of the best ways to get the layout; however, with all of the templates and suggestions provided by companies nowadays, it is easy to change the content and wording to suit your own business.

Your website can have numerous pages if you wish but needs to incorporate a “Home” page to provide the basic information, an "About Me" page which explains who you are and the reason you have your business, and also a “Contact Me” page offering an opportunity to get further information if needed.
