So you’ve bought an iPhone, which means you’re now in the club—congratulations. However, for all the good things that Apple devices do, battery power isn’t something iPhones are great for. In fact, they’re pretty poor. So what can be done about it? Buying two phones? Don’t be silly. Getting an Android? Possible, but it could feel like a downgrade. Here are just a few easy tips that you can do to make your phone battery last for much, much longer.

Get a Portable Charger

If you don’t like compromising your phone usage in any way, the best method, if you’re out and about, is to get your hands on a portable phone battery charger. They’re useful to give your phone the boost it needs, and some are small enough to fit in your pocket. It is also useful to look into getting one of these if you are out for an extended period of time, such as for festivals, sporting events, or day trips. They’re also relatively inexpensive, but thanks to sites such as My Favourite Voucher Codes, you can find them for less through discounts at retailers like Amazon, Currys, and Argos.

Put It Into Low Power Mode

One easy thing that you can do is to put your iPhone into a low power mode, which will extend the life of your phone’s battery. The mode will stop or reduce features that you probably wouldn’t have realised had been limited, such as background app refreshing, automatic downloads, and some visual effects. As well as that, things like email fetch, ‘Hey Siri’, and iCloud photos are temporarily paused. To put your iPhone into this mode, you’ll need to go into Settings, then click on Battery.

Closing Apps You Don’t Need

During the day, it’s likely that you will have used quite a few apps, and your battery will be sinking like a stone. Therefore, it can sometimes be a good thing to double tap the home button when you’re phone’s unlocked, which will then show you the whole host of applications you currently have open. For the ones you’re not using, you can flick up on them to close them. Using this method is a bit of a balancing act however, because if you use this method too often, you could be causing the adverse effect; if you keep closing and reopening apps, it will drain the battery quicker.

Reducing Screen Brightness

Sometimes you don’t need your screen as bright as it is, and reducing the brightness of your device will do wonders for your battery life. Before you do manually configure your screen brightness levels, just make sure you have automatic brightness turned off.

To change it, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations, and toggle off ‘Auto-Brightness’.

Recognising High-Power Apps

Not all applications use the same amount of power. Some use significantly more power than others, and recognising which ones are battery drainers will help you to save battery life. Some of the big energy guzzlers are popular apps such as Google Maps, Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Spotify. In Settings > Battery you can find out what applications you’ve used have consumed the most power, and from that you can work out which apps you should probably be using much less if you want to conserve energy.

Use Your Phone Less

Something easy that can be done to conserve your battery life is so simple: just use your phone less! Do you really need to check Facebook for the tenth time today? Not really. Do you have to listen to music on your short train journey? Maybe not. All the little things you can do to reduce your screen time will conserve battery power. However, sometimes the lure of looking at your phone is too much, so here are a few tips you can try to combat your mobile phone habit.

So there we go, just a few tips that will hopefully extend the life of your device. These hints are only just scratching the surface though, so if you do want to find more ways to save your phone’s battery power, this video has a few more things you can try.
