Apple recently released their latest version of iOS, which is iOS 16.1. This updated version was released after a little over a month of beta testing. In addition to the existing features, this new version of iOS 16 debuts a version of iPadOS 16 for the first time. Apple released best features in iOS 16 when it was first released, but some of them were missing. Apple added some amazing features to iOS 16.1 that weren't included in iOS 16. Apple has also tweaked some existing features. Below you will find 12 things or features you missed in the Apple iOS 16.1 update.

New iCloud Shared Photo Library

Apple does not release the iCloud shared photo library with iOS 16 due to a bug. But in iOS 16.1 the updated iCloud shared photo library feature is available. With the updated iCloud shared photo library, six people can access one photo library, making it easier to distribute photos among family and friends. When you add members to your iCloud shared photo library, they can add, edit, favorite, caption, and delete photos. Also users can have one personal and one shared library.

There are tools available for swapping between two libraries and uploading photos to the Shared Library directly from the camera, when other library participants are nearby, and more.

New Wallet Key Sharing Feature

Sharing car keys, hotel room keys, and other keys saved in the wallet app is now possible. Keys can be easily and securely shared with others through messages, WhatsApp and other messaging apps.

New Lock Screen and Home Screen Customization Enhancements

In the previous version of IOS 16, there were only lock screen customization available. Means you have to do other steps for home screen customization but in iOS 16.1, when you tap on "customize", you will see the option to choose between customizing either the lock screen or the home screen rather than just the lock screen.

Now it is easier to customize the look of the iPhone from one interface without having to navigate through multiple steps.

Matter Support

IOS 16.1 now supports the Matter smart home connectivity standard. Matter allows for interoperability between smart devices from different companies like Alexa, and Google Assistant devices.

With the previous version of iOS 16, the wallet app could be removed from the home screen but not deleted from the iPhone. But in OS 16.1, you can now delete the wallet app from the iPhone as well.

When you take a screenshot and choose an editing tool, there is now a new interface in the top right corner that gives you the option to copy and delete or save it. This interface was at the bottom of the iPhone. This redesigned interface is sleeker and less in your face as it does not take over the bottom of the display.

If you don't have an Apple Watch but want to track your fitness goals, you don't have to worry. Apple has released Apple Fitness+ without the Apple Watch. It means that in iOS 16.1, you can use Fitness+ without an Apple Watch if you are an Apple Fitness+ subscriber. You can start a workout and track fitness goals on your iPhone.

The wallpaper section in the settings app has been updated to allow users to switch between wallpapers using this interface. There is now a new option to add a new wallpaper. Apple has tweaked the design.

Bug Fixes

The updated IOS 16.1 includes some bug fixes that will improve the performance of your iPhone.

  • Deleted conversation may appear in the conversations list in Messages.
  • During Reachability, Dynamic Island content is not available.
  • CarPlay option will not work when using a VPN.
