Writers & their ego

Writers have this familiar way of using people. Often it’s premeditated rarely it’s unintentional. We go about casual conversation with an undertone of interrogation because we don’t trust anything with a pulse. We ask the questions, & we want answers in poetry, filled with metaphors & oxymorons, but when you deal with mediocre chitchat, what do we really expect to get?

Writers chase that rush of mental stimulation — those conversations with opposite thinkers, those silent smiles with tempting strangers, those pages we read in books that get under our skin & make us want to retract the way we thought yesterday.

We are constantly reincarnating ourselves with lessons & failures of someone else’s life, but would never put on their shoes if they were handed to us. Writers will never admit when another perspective holds more truth than our own. We will warp our analogy to make it fit where we need it to, because no one will outsmart us.

Is this all a blanket statement? Maybe. We’ve read too many stories & know how these scenes play out, to not want to be someone else before the ending catches up to us….
