Real or Not?

Here's what I see the little cursor teasing me asking me to write. Write something moving, motivating or just plain weird. Where do I start? Maybe from the beginning, but where will that take me? Will I have an initial incident? A problem to solve? Again, I have no idea, but there goes that little text cursor blinking. Expecting me to write. Chat GPT, should I rely on the AI that has been taking jobs left and right? Forget about editing and rewriting when AI can do it for you. Forget about coming up with clever ideas, when Chat GPT can write that for me. Forget about the twists in my plot, the storylines that captivates an audience when AI can just do the hard work for me. I used to just stare at the blank page before me hoping something would come to me, but now I can ask Chat GPT "Hey there, give me an idea to write about?" and boom the AI immediately starts writing down ideas and splurging on without needing to think about it, I wish my brain worked like that.

Where I could write anything imaginable, but wait. I can write anything, every fantasy I ever had could come to life with my words. I can turn any idea into a book where someone else's mind creates the world they envision with my descriptions and words. I can turn my imagination, my ideas into something permanent on paper. It can be written terribly and still make a movie out of it, it can be written with beautiful words with imagery and metaphors and not be touched by a single soul, and eventually dust would settle on the unopened book and no one would discover the world that lives in my mind.

I would write about mysterious forests and the reader would picture the trees, I would write about castles and as I described them stone walls would build in their minds with twisting staircases lit with fire torches. I would create a character that would stay in their mind as their imagination carried the story along. That idea though, just the idea of a castle or a mysterious forest with mythical things and impossible creatures would be my idea and planted into their mind like a science fiction novel making a world of impossible seem possible.

There would be the possibility that the characters never speak to another mind. The cities never see the light. The forests remain un-walked. An entire universe can live and die in silence, known only by the person who created it. Maybe that's what frightens me most about writing. Not that I might fail. But that I can create anything. Anything at all. And still have no control over whether another soul ever comes to see it. There could always be the possibility of this world become dust and transferred from library to library with no hope of anyone ever finding it. It would then be boxed off and recycled into a plant and my world would create something else entirely beyond my knowledge. I can create a legacy that can live on for thousands of generations, that can become large franchises and never forgotten. A book can influence so much and yet so little all at the same time.

Yet that text cursor blinks and blinks and nothing comes to my mind, but that is an easy excuse to not write. Words are everywhere and inspiration is everywhere. Remember to pick up the pen and paper or look at the cursor and just start.
