Why Journalism Is Under appreciated
Journalist do not receive as much attention as other professions
One of the most underrated and underappreciated professions in the world has to be journalism. Journalists don’t get acknowledged as much as other professions like sports players or rappers. While sports players engage in games, whether it be basketball or football, journalists are covering the games, the score, the team, and each team's leading players. Journalists face great risks in their line of work, such as fake news, misinformation, and information overload. Journalism comes in different forms. You have news, multimedia, and reviews while all being different; they all have an opinion through comments, posts, and tweets. Reasons why journalism is underappreciated are because we as a whole don’t read enough; as of January 2024, only 86.3% of the world reads, whether it's books, newspapers, or articles. Journalism is equally important as any of the other professions; journalists work just as hard! Journalism is important because it provides any and every type of information that can inform and help people make decisions in their everyday lives. For example, every day, the internet announces “breaking news.” It’s also important because it preserves freedom of speech. Journalists have the courage to say and write about things other people are scared of. Journalists are like a backbone to people. They help your lives daily. Social media helps journalists in so many ways, like...
-Engagement
Instagram and Twitter Can help journalists engage with their audience, which can help build trust with news and stories.
-Research
Social media platforms can help journalists gather information, reach out to experts, and become potential eyewitnesses. For example, multiple social media platforms can make big announcements and tell us breaking news.
Engagement and research are important; however, content delivery is something I forget to mention nowadays. The social platforms make it easy for journalists to deliver a story faster and easier. Typing on a computer, tablet, or phone is more accessible and reduces printing costs (according to Google).
Journalists should also watch what they write or post on platforms because everything you see on the internet is not real and everyone or everything cannot be a source.
