We Need More Communities

I understand that there’s an occasional push for added communities here on Vocal. I haven’t been here long enough to witness any, but there are two communities that need to exist. Two will keep the symmetry on the page better than one, and these are two separate realms, although many confuse them. I intend to push like Sisyphus for these communities to come into being.

First, we NEED a faith community. Badly. We need this far more than atheists and agnostics need prayers. I can’t speak for others, but I would respect the sanctity of the community and let them praise the lord to their hearts’ content without any subversive commentary from me.

I can’t promise to do that in poetry. The bad meter and cheap end rhymes being praised as great poems chafe against all of my literary sense. Platitudes do not poetry make, so let’s create a space for all of this inspiration where the people who seek it can find it, so the rest of us can be spared. No word minimum: short little rhymes and slogans are meat and potatoes for those who like that sort of thing. For the love of God, create a space for it.

Ah, symmetry. Adding one community would disrupt the symmetry of the communities page. I don’t want that. Instead of keeping all of this faith and inspiration merged into literary spaces, let’s create a second space for the antithesis of the faith community: philosophy. Many creators are deeply philosophical, and much non-religious thought and writing is philosophical.

I’m not suggesting that posting in one of these new communities should exclude you from the other, but I doubt an oil and water infusion of the two would be attempted. Give those of us who think a space to think, free of moralizing religious doctrine. Likewise, give those who prefer to keep logic and empirical data out of their beliefs a space for that. I’m begging.
