Vote Here for Your Favorite Dumb Law Story
There Oughta Be a A Law Challenge Voting
Harry Potter’s birthday has come and gone, but only a pittance of votes have been cast. I can’t help thinking this is due to my vast unpopularity, but please don’t deprive other creators from receiving votes for their challenge entries, all fantastic stories related to absurd laws. In hopes of the entrants receiving more votes (more entries than votes as of now), I’m extending the voting period until it at least breaks even.
Here’s the challenge:
And here are the entries. There’s a link to the dumb laws website in the original challenge post. I got the idea for this challenge after finally taking pen to paper about a South Carolina law (and thoughts about one in North Carolina). It’s not eligible to win, only included as the example piece that generated the idea for the challenge.
Kendall Defoe takes us to an Alabama funeral.
Paul Aaron Domenick explores the absurdity of laws governing our physical bodies, one in particular.
Sasha Desideri takes us to the opera in Chicago.
Julie Lacksonen discusses the legality of facial hair in a Minnesota town.
Tim Carmichael takes us to Tennessee for some dueling (with pistols, not banjos). Take heed, potential politicians!
Jesse Lee entered with this piece about cucumbers in Connecticut.
Sara Wilson takes us to California to get glazed.
Paul Stewart has some thoughts about swimwear in France.
Diane Foster takes us to the halls of Parliament for some fishy business.
Finally (actually initially, as these are in reverse order), Mike Singleton indulges us with some math and monkey business in Indiana.
You still have time to tell me why you can’t keep a horse in a bathtub in South Carolina or whether the ice cream sundae has anything to do with the Georgia law prohibiting carrying an ice cream cone in your pocket.
Read some dumb laws, make up some preposterous stories, and have fun! I’ve always been an outlaw at heart, so don’t be surprised if I go to Alaska and wake up a bear for a photo shoot or let a cat run loose in Colorado without a tail light.
Also, since today is Bastille Day, we should all be busting folks out of prison today.
