A week flies around here! Back again with this week’s Vocal + Assist Picks. As ever, it was incredibly challenging to whittle the selection down. So much talent, so little space.

In this collection, we delve into a wonderful array of narratives, both fictional and non. Each piece offers us a unique voice that shows the diverse range of the human capacity for creativity.

Every week as I nestle into a cat or two to write up the suggestions, I find myself in awe of the power we all hold within our pens to connect, to heal and to share. I am always humbled and inspired as I encounter talents old and new (to me) and am thankful that I have the opportunity to share our discoveries a little further, I hope that you enjoy the them as much as we did!

Enough of my rambling, I'll just get on with it! In orderless order:

First up Suze Kay’s almost criminally under-read poem, Our Lady

Suze Kaye’s poem is a beautifully crafted tribute to the Notre dame cathedral. Encapsulating the shock and sorrow of the fire but ultimately offering hope in the form of resilience in the hard face of loss. A poignant testament to the power of architecture to embody cultural and historical identities. The poem effectively captures the collective mourning and the hope that continues despite tragedy. A cleverly crafted piece, perfect for anyone seeking humanity in the ashes of adversity.

D. A. Ratliff presents us with another fantastic installment of the Detective Elijah Boone Mystery Series, The Dowager's Pearls. This one became a Top story mid-write up! Congratulation D.A. Ratliff!

Engaging and descriptive, this piece is a compelling read for anyone who enjoys a well-crafted detective story. A clever blend of intriguing, massterfully crafted characters combined with a suspenseful plot. Not to mention the witty dialogue. What is not to adore? A standout piece in the series, promising readers an enjoyable and thrilling experience. Looking forward to the follow ups!

Oneg In The Arctic's heartwarming piece , 'When You're Adopted into Your Wife's Mexican Catholic Christmas'

An insightful reflection that harnesses the power of love. Beginning in relative isolation, celebrating Hanukkah alone, an initial loneliness is quickly replaced as celebrations ensue. A thought-provoking story that speaks of the value of our chosen family and the need to actively craft the life we seek for ourselves. This thoughtful offering truly captures the joy of embracing diversity and the infinite power of respectful acceptance. A perfect read for anyone thinking of making a change or just seeking hope in the world.

Shane Dobbie

Taking inspiration from the artwork of Antonio Maria Esquivel, ‘Meeting of Poets in the Artist's Studio, Shane has crafted a wonderfully imaginative piece. Exploring the introspective world of the poet we are presented with a perceptive vignette depicting a gathering that is both whimsical and reflective. Placing emphasis on the power of the written word it is a thoroughly charming ode to poets and poetry. A celebration of the quietly intense impact of language and the continuous quest for meaning and connection that forms the heart of the poetic journey. A definite read for the budding poets amongst us!

Dean F. Hardy

A deeply resonant poem capturing the emotional turmoil of reconciling with betrayal in a relationship. Dean F. Hardy’s uses vivid imagery and powerful metaphor to conveys the pain of entrapment, loss, and the slow acknowledgment of deceit. A poignant and evocative poem exploring complex emotions and the haunting aftermath of a relationship gone awry. A must read for anyone who has ever felt the hurt of infidelity. And even those who haven’t.

Thank you to all of the creators on Discord and Facebook for sharing your talent. And, as ever a huge thank you to the curation team Rick Henry Christopher, River Joy, Oneg Tristan, Darnell Lee, Jim Delaney Howe, Lamar Wiggins and Mother Combes.

A last note

This week’s reflection comes in the words, not of my own, sadly but of Margaret Atwood

“A word after a word after a word is power."

And here, on this platform and beyond we have found the power of the word, unveiling and sharing some of what we are. Our thoughts and dreams. Our memories and imaginations. Each piece embodying the spirit of creativity and the collective strength we hold in our words. And there is a delicate beauty to be found in that, a beauty for which I am grateful. I hope among the words of these wonderful talents you too find inspiration and words that touch you with the infinite power they hold.

In the spirit of sharing, as always your comments, suggestions and thoughts are welcomed. Please feel free to leave a message (or two) below.
