Harper Lewis Dear John Literary Break Up Letter
Dear Woody,
After an extensive analysis of our partnership, including a review of all major missions and emotional conflicts, I have reached a difficult but necessary conclusion: our mission together has reached its final phase.
When we first met, what feels like light-years ago now, I believed you were a simple-minded local sheriff with outdated technology, limited mobility, and a suspicious lack of wings. After years of observation, I have determined that your leadership abilities and unwavering loyalty are valuable assets. You may never have worn a Star Command uniform, but you have always possessed the heart of a Space Ranger.
Though your Earth customs---the cowboy hats, the roundups, and songs about friendship--were inconsistent with Star Command protocol, I must admit that I grew to find them surprisingly enjoyable. Dancing with Jessie was not only an unexpectedly successful social operation, but, as you would say, the rootinest, tootinest good time.
I have come to accept that you have continued referring to me as "a child's plaything," despite my years of service protecting Andy's room, rescuing innocent life forms from The Claw, and charging into danger without a functioning jetpack. I still dispute the accuracy of your assessment, but the banter became one of my favorite parts of our partnership.
However, I can no longer ignore the truth: you will always have a friend in me, but this was never intended to be my final mission. It was only part of my journey.
My mission requires exploration. I must continue onward. New horizons. New galaxies.
Unless my batteries expire or I undergo a factory reset, I will never forget you, the gang, and the adventures we shared. Sid's house. The Pizza Planet truck. Al’s Toy Barn. The airport conveyor belt. All the times we entered dangerous situations with absolutely no reasonable plan.
This will be my final transmission:
You were the first friend I ever had on this planet. You taught me that being a hero does not require lasers, jetpacks, or a dramatic voice that sounds like Tom Hanks. It only requires the courage to catch someone when they are falling.
May your pull string remain strong, your hat properly positioned, and your boots forever free of snakes.
