There Oughta Be a Law . . .
dumb laws rogue challenge
Let’s have another rogue challenge.
Since Vocal is committed to horrifying everyone on the platform, I, for one, need comic relief. There’s nothing better for that than some of these weird state laws.
The link above is to a list of the strangest laws in the land, state by state. I often amuse myself by creating a backstory to explain how a law came into being. The link below explores the South Carolina law about horses and bathtubs.
Here’s the challenge: pick a law from any state (combine some if you want) and write a story or poem depicting your imagination’s answer to the question “How in the world did this become a law and why?”
Rules:
1. Choose one of these batshit crazy state laws and write a story or poem that shows what behavior by whom provoked the state to pass a law about it.
2. NO HORROR. There are plenty of horror challenges available. Putting a horror story in this challenge will be interpreted as an act of war, and I’m fresh out of white flags, so a counterstrike will be inevitable for anyone who breaks this rule, and I’m already bloodthirsty. Do not poke the bear.
3. As long as it doesn’t involve horror, any community you choose is fine by me. I repeat, but let’s keep it under 1500 words. NO HORROR.
4. The link business. Put a link to the challenge somewhere in your entry and put your entry in the comments. Enter as many times as you like. If you want to enter with a dumb law from another part of the world, that’s A-okay, just include a link to the silly law.
5. NO HORROR
Challenge dates:
I will accept entries from now until Bastille Day.
I will post the entries on National Ice Cream Day and allow everyone to vote until National Barbie-in-a-Blender Day.
Prizes will be determined based on the number of entries (no reading fee) and be disclosed in the Ice Cream Day post.
The winners will be posted on Harry Potter’s birthday.
Play ball!
